A Collection of Items Relating to Colonel Alwyn de Blaquiere Valentine Paget, His Majesty's Royal Bodyguard, comprising :- a Good George V Gentleman-at-Arms Helmet, in gilt brass with swan feather plume, gilt metal and cut steel helmet plate with King's crown, lion mask ear rosettes, the oak leaf chased chin scales with hinged lion paw clasp, with leather sweatband, in a Hawkes & Co. japanned tin case, with japanned tin plume holder; his 1887 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Officer's Sword by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, the 89cm epee blade etched with maker's name and the owner's name and Paget family crest, the back edge numbered 23683, the silver plated steel hilt with wire bound fishskin grip, with gilt bullion thread sword knot and steel scabbard,107cm, with leather slip case; an Oil on Canvas Portrait of Colonel Aide de Blaquier Valentine Paget by John Mansfield Crealock, standing, three quarter length wearing court dress, signed, the verso signed, inscribed and dated 1914, 72cm by 44cm, in a glazed gilt frame; a Black and White Engraved Portrait of King Edward VII, entitled "IN REMEMBRANCE OF YOUR VIGIL" MAY 17TH - 20TH 1910, and signed in pencil by King George V, plate size 86cm by 59cm, in a glazed and crowned ebonised and parcel gilt frame, together with a letter typed on Marlborough House headed paper from F M Ponsonby relating to the gifting of the engraving, and a black and white photograph of two Gentlemen at Arms, taking the salute during their march to or from the lying-in-state of King Edward VII - Paget is the gentleman saluting (7)Footnote :- Alwyn Paget was one of the Gentleman at Arms (Body Guards) to King Edward VII, and as such, was amongst those Gentlemen at Arms who kept vigil by the late king's coffin during the lying-in-state at Westminster Hall.Alwyn de Blaquiere Valentine Paget; Lieutenant-Colonel in the Durham Light Infantry (Colonel par brevet). Born 2nd February 1855; died 14th May 1931. He was a great nephew of Henry William Paget, first Marquess of Anglesey. He married Florence Talbot Laing.
