The Strela was a wristwatch with stopwatch and a 45-minute minutes counter. The dial had additional telemetric and tachymeter scales. The watch was exclusively designed for the officers of the USSR Air Force and was produced according to strict military specifications. PIERRE D'AVESN (France, 1901 - 1990/91).Art Deco vase, ca. 1950.Green moulded glass.Signed P. D'Avens Made in France on the base.Measurements: 17.5 cm (height); 17.5 cm (diameter).Ornamental vase, design by Pierre d'Avesn, in translucent green, conical in shape with lateral decoration in the form of exagonal scales. Pierre D'Avesn, whose real name was Pierre Gire, studied at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and at the age of fourteen he joined the firm of René Lalique, where he learned the glass arts from this great master. He worked with Lalique for twelve years, and designed some of the firm's most famous pieces for him, such as the "Serpent" and "Tourbillons" vases. In 1927 he began working for Daum, designing and supervising production at their Luneville factory, which specialised in Art Deco glass for export, mainly to the United States. However, the factory closed in 1932 due to the Depression, and between 1937 and 1940 D'Avesn worked for Verlys. Although it is not known for certain, it is possible that after the Second World War he continued to work for the art glass industry, probably in Choisy-Le-Roi/Sèvres.
