A late 19th century serpent bracelet, modelled as an expandable coiled snake, highlighted with cushion-shaped ruby eyes, signed BREVETÉ LION S.G.D.G and stamped DÉPOSÉ LION, with French Mercury's head gold export marks, total length approximately 75cmCondition report: There is a small break to the underside of the coiled section, near to the tail, where the some of the scales have been pushed downwards. The remainder of the coiled section is mostly good, with occasional flattened areas causing the scales to separate a little, and kinks/shallow dings. The rivet to the head is protruding to one side and there are areas of porosity to the head and tail, associated with solder joins, which appear to be part of manufacture. The coiled section is expandable, but would best fit a small to medium-sized wrist. The Mercury's head export marks are on the tail, with two further indistinct marks. Rubies are well matched, of mid to dark pinkish-red hues with surface wear, one stone containing an area of 'silk' inclusions, giving a cloudy/iridescent appearance. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 53.2gm.
A pair of mid 19th century Royal Artillery brass shoulder scales (worn); a pre WW1 trumpeter's bullion and wool embroidered arm badge; and a small quantity of military and other collar badges, lapel badges, etc, including Special Boat Service enamelled shield (brooch fitting (?) replaced by lugs, the enamel crinkled overall, probably when the lugs were replaced); King's Own and Ryl Tank Corps/Regt bronze collar badges, a 1939-45 War Medal, etc, many worn or damaged. £80-150
A mid 19th century continental cavalry officer's helmet, with leather skull, peak and crest, brass trim to peak, black velvet band secured by bullion strips, gilt chin scales with star bosses, and plume holder. A rare Vietnamese 15/16th Century bracket-lobed pottery dish. Decorated with underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze polychrome enamels of which there are only remnants left. The central motif in underglaze blue which outlines an image of a carp turning into a dragon, would have originally been detailed with overglaze enamels, filling in the motif with scales as well as cloud decoration and further decoration to the edges of the dish. The incised decoration of scales and clouds are still visible as well as geometric detailing to the rim. Diam. 15.5cm Provenance: Purchased from a private collection, Bangkok Thailand, 2004.
