Fuller (John E.) and Aaron Palmer. Fuller's Computing Telegraph, engraved by George G. Smith, double faced circular calculator comprising of a square board surrounding printed scales with central volvelle, original diced leather cover (detached), worn, large 4to, Washington, 1847; together with 2 instruction pamphlets loosely inserted.⁂ Designed by John Emory Fuller (1799-1878) in 1844 and patented in 1845. 'Palmer's Computing Scale' was used to calculate square measures, cubic measures, timber measures, grain measures, liquid measures and interest rates from 3 percent to 10 percent on a daily and monthly basis. Invented by Aaron Palmer and patented in 1843 in Massachusetts, the copyright of which had been purchased by Fuller in 1844 or 1845. This 'computing scale' represents a very early use of the word 'computer' for a device rather than a person.

A Small Caucasian Kindjal, And A Russian Nielloed BeltThe First Late 19th Century, The Second With Moscow Silver Marks For 1878The first with bright sharply tapering double-edged blade (some areas of rust staining) cut with an off-set fuller over most of its length on each side, one side at the forte with gold-inlaid maker's name '(K.) Purdey, 314½ Oxford Street, London, No. 6319 For 1862With rebrowned damascus twist sighted barrels retaining traces of maker's details along the rib, long slender tang decorated with symmetrical scrolling foliage, swept fences, sliding breech-action and Bastin Le Page type lever all decorated en suite, the action with chequered figured scales forming the fore-end, the lever with spring catch and sliding the barrels for loading and unloading, signed border engraved serial numbered back-action locks each decorated with foliate scrollwork and stamped with locksmith's initials 'IB' on the inside (for a member of the Brazier family of Wolverhampton), the mechanisms retaining their case-hardened and burnished finish, dolphin hammers decorated en suite (each nose repaired) and pierced for extracting cartridges, highly figured stock with chequered grip and butt, blued serial numbered trigger-guard decorated with foliate scrollwork within borders of repeated flowering foliage on the bow, vacant silver escutcheon, and some original finish: in contemporary relined and refitted oak case with accessories including James Dixon & Sons 12-bore case-sizer, capping/decapping tool and chamber-brush, and a J.
