POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTION, LONDON and annoted with two sets of scales titled SET YESTERDAY and SET TO DAY with brass pivoted pointers adjusted via setting squares below register, the whole flanked by pilasters, the rectangular glazed lower section with SPECIAL REMARKS plaques flanking tube above Fahrenheit and Centigrade thermometers with bulb cistern beneath, 114cm high. Joseph Davis & Co are recorded by Banfield, Edwin BAROMETER MAKERS & RETAILERS 1660-1900 as working from Royal Polytechnic Institution, 6 Kennington Park Road, London 1871. They had the sole rights to produce the Royal Polytechnic Barometer in England which was in essence a further developed form of the Admiral Fitzroy pattern barometer with similar but more detailed observations.
