An extremely rare and possible unique 17c rectilinear slide rule comprising two 24 1/2" x 5/8" x 5/16" legs each with a brass loop at one end. The front face has a line of inches No'd 1 to 24 by 10ths from the right top edge. Internal edges have identical pairs of logerithmic 1-10 1-10 also marked at 12 as used for timber. The bottom edge divided by 100 twice. The reverse side has inches 1-24 on the top slide and 25-48 on the bottom slide by 8ths for internal measuring, the top internal edge has similar double radius log scales 1-10 1-10. The adjacent edge has a single radius 4-40 line also marked W for wine and A for ale. This type of rule, sometimes called calculating rods or glaziers rules, also fits the description of the earliest design of Henry Coggeshall rule from 1677. only half of the boxwood sliver between the two slides remains. The most unusual feature is the 24" length of the rule GThis rule was lent to The Arithmeum in Germany for display for several months in 2014.
