18th Century mahogany Secretaire Chest, the rectangular top with satinwood crossbanding, boxwood and ebony herringbone inlay, the spandrels inlaid with shells, the secretaire drawer fitted central cupboard with rosewood door, flanked by compartments and four drawers, enclosed by a fall front and with three long drawers below, the base drawer with concaved sunburst inlay, with oval brass handles and on bracket feet, 107cms, (3’6”) and associated late Victorian Bookcase Top, with shaped cornice, fitted two shelves enclosed by astragal glazed doors and on a moulded base, 107cms (3’6”).

Maritime Art. A pair of Victorian octagonal cased shellwork pictures, of stylised floral designs in coloured shells, one inscribed REMEMBER ME the other centred by a heart, in hinged mahogany frames, 24cm diam, Caribbean. Recent research suggests that such pictures and sweetheart's gifts in coloured shells were produced in the 19th c in the West Indies for sale to visiting mariners. A larger similar example was sold in these Rooms 6 February 2004, lot 638 - 7,645 . Amateurish repair to the mahogany side of one beneath the hinge but in otherwise excellent original condition one or two of the small shells detached and loosely rattling about beneath the glass on the heart panel but this is mainly confined to the tiny red shells that surround the heart the rest remain stable
