Donovan British Shells 5 vol. in 3 180 hand-coloured aquatint plates paper guards lacking text f. for plate 195 duplicate text for plate 134 ink inscriptions to titles some browning and damp-staining to text ff. occasional spotting but plates generally in good condition contemporary half morocco spines in compartments and richly gilt with shell motifs a few small scuff marks rubbed [Nissen 1147] a very good set 8vo [1799]-1804.

A scarce Britains 155mm Gun A sound example of this working model, which featured an opening breech, shell-case, spring-powered firing mechanism, loader and 6 shells (5 present). The barrel is raised and powered by using a knurled wheel, which functions but is rather stiff. Boxed, minor wear, item VGC, minor chipping.

A GEORGE III TWO-COLOUR GOLD TOOTHPICK BOX, ALEXANDER JAMES STRACHAN, LONDON, 1818 elongated rectangular, the lid chased with shells and flowerheads within a formal foliate border, the sides and base engine-turned 7.7cm long Stachan is held by many to have produced the best boxes in the Regency period and although gold (as well as silver) snuff boxes with Strachan`s mark appear reasonably regularly, gold toothpick boxes appear to be very rare.
