An early 19th century George II style gilt wood and gesso mirror - possibly Irish, the elaborate frame moulded with shells, scrolls and rocaille work, the top decorated with a goat head with protruding tongue, replaced mirror plate, 125cm H x 71.5cm W CONDITION REPORT: The mirror has been entered to auction from a private country residence in north Shropshire. The vendors inherited the mirror many years ago - sadly, they do not know anything about its history. The mirror has a replaced plate and has later back panels. Also has later batons to the back to hang the mirror. The frame has general wear, some small chips and general age cracks - the gilt / painted surface is thick and not original. Despite faults overall appearance ok.
