A Loggerhead "Blonde" Turtle Shell (Caretta caretta), late 18th/19th century, attractively marked, worn and patinated, 67cm long, 52cm wide This species and/or certain sub-species are subject to Cites regulations. Please refer to our Special Notices relating to Sporting and Natural History specimens at the front of this catalogue. Such blonde turtle shells are often mistaken as albino, but the paleness is due to the shell having had the skeats (thin membrane known as tortoiseshell) removed. As this shell pre-dates 1947, it is not affected by any current European legislation.
