Collection of Great War letters some send by T.G.Barrinton Ward, (Lieut?) a number while on active duty, both from France and Alexandria. 58th Division and Special Heavy Gun Det. appear on different letters and one from a Chamberlayne he describes life being "very dull, except when we are actually flying" he also mentions "The Germans have a nasty habit of throwing horrid little shells at us, that go off with a loud pop just in front of our noses" Dates range from 1915 to 1918. Evocative Message on WWI 1918 Xmas Card Reverse, dated 29/11/18. Written shortly after the Armistice "John" comments "how strange to be able to walk about with your head up without fear of being sniped by the Hun", "the silence after the eternal roar of the guns and bursting shells and the staccato chatter of the M.G's seem unearthly" "There are just seven of us left of the original Battn. that arrived in 1914. Each of us has been wounded at least four times. Tonight the seven of us are going into the village to celebrate, guess we have earned it. we chaps don't trust the hun" Written to Mum & Dad this sums up the experience of the Great War for the ordinary soldier.

A pair of carved walnut open armchairs in the early 18th Century manner:, with upholstered stuff over cartouche-shaped backs and bowed seats, the shaped arm supports with birds head terminals and acanthus and husk decoration, on cabriole legs, headed with scallop shells, C-scrolls and foliage, terminating in claw and ball feet.
A Derby figure of Neptune and a similar figure of Juno: Neptune standing by a large dolphin, the scrollwork base applied with shells and seaweed, iron-red crowned Derby mark and incised N299, circa 1800, 26cm; Juno with a peacock at her side, on square base, patch and incised marks, circa 1790, 17cm [minor loss and restoration] 2.
A 19th century Chinese carved ivory brise fan, the twenty-one inner sticks and two guards featuring a central oval containing figures and trees, surrounded by figures amongst willow, pavilions and prunus, the tips featuring hermit crabs and shells beneath individual figures, the guards carved with dragons, guard length 19cm Condition Report: There are some old metal pinned repairs to both guards where they have both been cracked and repaired in at least two places (one guard and one stick with multiple pinned repairs and associated old ivory patched repairs and the other guard with one pinned repair visible). Areas of old discoloured glue are visible to repaired areas. Some slight and relatively minor losses to pierced fretwork to the sticks, the ribbon may perhaps be a later replacement, it has certainly been reattached to one guard, The quality of the carving is intricate, it is a very decoraative example and has been well executed.

A FRENCH ORMOLU 'VERSAILLES' HALL LANTERN LATE 19TH CENTURY with an open crown surmount decorated with fleur-de-lis and issuing a chain, the octagonal faceted body with bevelled glass panels and a hinged door, applied with shells and flowerheads, with a single light fitting, the base with bearded male masks and a probably later cone pendant 77.5cm high Provenance By repute, this was originally in Chelmsford Cathedral.
A rare Belleek First Period serving dish and covercirca 1863-90of oval form, the shell moulded with pink scallop shells and coral picked out in pale blue, printed factory mark in black,24.2cm wide (restored)Condition report: Some good restoration to the four slightly raised stems of coral to the underside of the base. The shell finial to the cover has also been broken off at some stage, with some further good restoration to the finial alongside the blue coral supporting the shell to cover this repair.
