Despinchal.Steinschloss Pistolenpaar von Jacques - Louis Arault in Versailles um 1765/74.Kaliber 16 mm bei einer Gesamtlänge von 48,5 cm.Eugene Heer ?Der Neue Stöckel? Band 1, S. 27 führt zu J.L. Arault folgendes aus:?Arault, Jacques Louis, Paris und Versailles, ca. 1742 ? 1780. Wird als Geschworener der Büchsenmacher ? und Feuermacherzunft in Paris vorgeschlagen.Amtiert von 1745 ? 1747 als Geschworener. Unterzeichnet 1747 zusammen mit anderen Meistern den Lehrvertrag von Andre Dupre und dessen Meister Jean Charles Lempereur, Paris. Wird in diesem Vertrag bereits als in Versailles wohnhaft aufgeführt. Büchsenmacher des Dauphins Louis de France (des zukünftigen Louis XVI) und später des Grafen von Artois,( des späteren Königs Charles X.), seines Bruders."Die Schlossplatte ist zwischen Hahn und Batteriefeder signiert: "Arault A Versailles". Sie ist mit voll ausgearbeiteten Muscheln verziert. Auf dem spitz zulaufenden Ende befindet sich ein plastisch ausgearbeitetes Blütenarrangement. Die Schlossgegenplatte ist in Silber ausgeführt und fixiert mit drei Schrauben die mit Rankenwerk verzierte Schlossplatte. Von der Schwanzschraube ausgehend ist der Lauf achtkantig konisch zulaufend ausgeführt. Nach einem Drittel der Lauflänge geht er in eine runde Form über. Auf dem achtkantigen Teil des Laufes befindet sich innerhalb umlaufender Linien und diversen Mustern die in Gold eingelegte Chiffre "L" des französischenn Thronfolgers Louis, Duc de Berry. Das Korn ist in Silber gehalten. Unterhalb der Schwanzschraube befindet sich das plastisch ausgearbeitete Wappen des Dauphin. Der in Silber gehaltene Abzugsbügel reicht weit in den Kolben.Der aus edlem Nussbaumholz bestehende Schaft ist am Ende der Schlossplatten tropfenförmig erhaben ausgearbeitet.Am Kolbenabschluss der Pistolen befindet sich jeweils ein mit Rocaillen verzierter, in plastischer Silbverschmiedearbeit ausgeführter Knauf mit Darstellung eines Delphins (Symbol des französischen Thronfolgers mit dem offiziellen Titel "le Dauphin") umgeben von einem Bandelier mit der Inschrift:?DON DE MRS. LE DAUPHIN A MR. DESPINCHAL PR. Despinchal.Pair of flintlock presentation pistols by Jacques - Louis Arault in Versailles around 1765/74. Caliber 16 mm with a total length of 48.5 cm. Eugene Heer "Der Neue Stöckel" vol. 1, p. 27 states the following about J.L. Arault: "Arault, Jacques Louis, Paris and Versailles, ca. 1742 - 1780. Proposed as a juror of the gunsmiths' and firemakers' guild in Paris. Serves on the jury from 1745 - 1747. Signs the apprenticeship contract of Andre Dupre and his master Jean Charles Lempereur, Paris, together with other masters in 1747. Is already listed in this contract as living in Versailles. Gunsmith to the Dauphin Louis de France (the future Louis XVI) and later to the Count of Artois (the future King Charles X), his brother."The lock plate is signed between the cock and the battery spring: "Arault A Versailles". It is decorated with fully sculpted shells. The tapered end features a sculpted flower arrangement. The lock counterplate is made of silver and fixes the lock plate decorated with scrollwork with three screws. Starting from the tang, the barrel is octagonal and tapered. After a third of the barrel length, it changes to a round shape. On the octagonal part of the barrel is the cipher "L" of the French heir to the throne Louis, Duc de Berry, inlaid in gold within surrounding lines and various patterns. The front sight is in silver. Below the tang is the sculpted coat of arms of the Dauphin. The silver trigger guard extends far into the butt. The stock is made of fine walnut and has a raised drop-shaped finish at the end of the lock plates. At the butt end of each pistol is a pommel decorated with rocailles and executed in finest sculpted silversmith's workmanship with a depiction of a dolphin (symbol of the French heir to the throne with the official title "le Dauphin") surrounded by a bandeau with the engraved inscription:"DON DE MRS. LE DAUPHIN A MR. DESPINCHAL PR. PAGE".The wooden ramrod with silver finish is held by a silver ramrod socket. An exceptionally beautiful and important pair of pistols of exceptionally fine quality.Absolutely untouched original condition.As a gift from the heir to the French throne, the Dauphin Louis Duc de Berry (later King Louis XVI of France), to his first page, a historical collector's item of the greatest rarity.Provenance: Sothebys Zurich, auction Arms and Armour, 06.11.1992, lot 228. dating: 1927 provenance: Trieste, Made of wood, of rectangular shape, the lid with the inscription 'Varo Transatlantico CONTE GRANDE del Lloyd Sabaudo STABILIMENTO TECNICO TRIESTINO Cantiere San Marco Trieste 20 June 1927' in the centre, in an oval between two medallions, one with a Savoy eagle and one with the company's coat of arms, the border decorated with shells. The sides descending with grooves, the front with Lloyd Trieste coat-of-arms and with fasces on the sides. Inside 'Conte Grande Passenger List', a small booklet of the voyage from New York on 29 June 1933 and from Boston on 30 June to Gibraltar, Naples, Nice and Genoa. In its original case. dimensions 39.5 x 19.8 x 26.5 cm.
