A 12-bolt 'Abalone' diving helmet by Desco, Milwaukee Wis, USA:, number '403' (matching), four circular windows with bar guards, spring loaded safety bolt, comms cap, spitcock, rear air intake and comms, side outlet, hanging posts and plaque as per title, 46cm high. *Anthony Pardoe notes - 'This type of helmet was primarily designed for gathering pearl, abalone shells, sponge and underwater vegetation. However it can also be used for commercial diving. This particular helmet was made in 1992 for the previous owner of DESCO - Tom Fifield - and was on display in his office....Abalone helmets did not usually have communications as they were not part of the original drawings or specifications. A Pierre Balmain couture evening gown, 'Oriane', Autumn-Winter, 1954-55, labelled and numbered 73579, of ivory and ice-blue satin, integral corset, lavishly embroidered by Lesage with gilt metal strip, gold threads, pale turquoise and grey chenille, bugle and pearl beads, small sea-shells and glass droplets, the tight pencil skirt with rear kick pleat, bust 81-86cm, 32-34in, waist 66cm, 26in The Metropolitan Museum has a similar version with brown contrasts, accession no. C.160.30. CONDITION REPORT: Slight underarm staining, slight soiling at front waistline (where a belt would have been) slight soiling/blemishes to bodice and rear skirt - but minor. Generally good condition. Lacking belt, hem may have been raised but if so done by Balmain. Inner corset has been slightly widened at the top closure. Hole in slip below inner closure. Slight soiling to back panels of rayon corset. Centre front seam of corset has been re-sewn. There would have been a blue satin bow prestud fastened to the back which is missing.

A German modernist vase, 1950s-60s, by Great Entwurf of Bavaria, printed factory marks, of asymmetric bag form, decorated with fish and shells on a black ground, within silver mounted borders, 5½in. (14cm.) high; together with two similar pieces, a pitcher by Alka of Bavaria, 6in. (15.25cm.) high; and a saucer by Hutschenruther, both with similar floral decoration. (3) * Condition.: All three pieces in good condition, with no damage or restoration.

A Kynoch Limited Cartridge Display Board, circa 1904, composed of a centered print of a Peregrine Falcon sitting atop its prey, a grouse, and bearing the legend KYNOCH LIMITED, BIRMINGHAM. and with illustrations of BONAX, KYNOID and OPEX cartridges, the whole immediately surrounded by inert examples of the above cartridges, totalling 110 shells, many with cutaway windows, each corner of the frame further displaying rifle cartridges, 13, 13, 13 and 12 examples ranging from .297 up to .600, further interspersed with four examples of Kynoch Fog Signals, one label detached but present, the whole in a glazed stained oak frame. Backing board with split. 39.75 x 34.25 inches.
An 1896 Pattern Mountain Artillery sword or sidearm by Wilkinson, 76.5cm curved blade stamped WILKINSON at the forte and stamped with an arrow over I over SD and with an arrow over I over 03, regulation brass stirrup hilt stamped R.P.Q. 04 over 5 M.B. R.G.A. 53, ribbed iron grip, contained in its brass mounted brown leather MKII scabbard. Some salt and pepper pitting towards the tip of the blade. Interestingly five guns of the 5th Mountain Battery RGA were present at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle as part of the Indian Corps and were in position to provide direct fire on German positions in support of 7th and 8th Divisions of IV Corps, losing one gun to enemy fire. The Mountain Artillery generally was deemed to have been lacking in effect due to the absence of any High Explosive shells, the shrapnel shells being ineffective against fortified positions.
