Condition Report: The mortar bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.There is some pitting to the interior and some tarnishing as well as a raised area at the bottom, but the exterior patination is a rich and glossy mid-brown overall.There are some areas of verdigris to the lip and foot, as well as light green residue to the recesses of the relief.The mortar has a resonant 'ring' when tapped. Condition Report Disclaimer

London 1849, the integral crumb tray in the shape of two mirror imaged scallop shells and at their junction a threaded and detachable cast Boar's head and ribbon crest with mark of John Hunt & Robert Roskell and part mark for silver, the bars and simple ring style handle in the shape of seaweed fronds, raised on two applied and parallel cast abstract bars in the form of coral branches, underside stamped HUNT & ROSKELL LATE STORR, MORTIMER & HUNT 4439, 19cm in length, 18cm in height, 21.6oztFootnote: Hunt & Roskell were renowned jewellers and silversmiths with premises on Bond Street, London who, for many years, held the Royal Warrant of Queen Victoria - an honour they reflected in their maker’s mark which they surmounted with a crown. The firm was the successor to the celebrated silversmith, Paul Storr.Condition report: Overall in good condition with no obvious sign of damage. Some evidence of repairs to a number of the branches where they join the shell base. The branches themselves are abstract so a little difficult to see if they are out of shape, but there is nothing visually obvious apart from the branch supporting the handle with is a little out of shape.Stands firm on a flat surface with no wobble. Hallmarks a little rubbed, but the signature is clear and crisp.Would benefit greatly from profession cleaning and polishing.

Original green cloth (small hole to spine), dust-jacket (minor spotting, browning to spine). Note: the densely written 2pp. letter was written in 1949 from Tokyo where Blunden was teaching. The letter responds to a query from a 'Mr Miles' regrading a biography he is writing of the painter, Samuel Laurence, and his search for information relating to the Gliddon family. Blunden suggests various possible sources, including descendants of Thornton Hunt, G.H. Lewes, finally suggesting a call on Mr. J.H. Preston, the curator of Keats House. Blunden also suggests he reads George Eliot's 'Daniel Deronda' for clues, in particular the 'family with aesthetic tastes tho' straightened circumstances'. Overall conveying a sense of Blunden's generosity, wide-reading, and knowledge of 19th century English literary culture. Most dinosaur eggs have one of two forms of eggshell that are distinct from the shells of related modern animal groups, such as turtles or birds; however, some eggs closely resemble the type of shells seen in present day ostrich eggs. A George IV silver fiddle pattern caddy spoon by Parkes & Latham, the bowl embossed with shells and with leaf cast terminal, Birmingham 1822. CONDITION REPORT: This spoon appears to be in good overall condition with crips definition to the embossing and clear hallmarks and makers mark. The bowl is slightly out of line with the oval shape with the front most lobe of the bowl pushed slightly forward but there does not appear to be evidence of trauma or denting to the spoon, perhaps this malforming is as a result of the embossing work on the spoon.
