A large early 19th century French silver tea tray, Odiot, 1st standard, Paris circa 1837, of rectangular shape with a foliate border decorated with shells and with two massive foliate scrolled handles, raised on four integrated foliate feet, inscribed to the surface of the tray ` Presented to The Reverend Robert Newstead formerly Missionary at Ceylon and lately in France on the Eve of his departure for England by his sincere and affectionate friends of various Christian denominations at Paris as a small but respectful tribute of their personal friendship their admiration of his conduct character and exertions during the period of his missionary labours in this Capital AND as an indication of the interest they shall continue to take in all his future ministrations and efforts in the cause of Christianity, 67cm wide, 104oz. Provenance: According to George Smith`s History of Wesleyan Methodism, Robert`s four year term in Paris was well thought of; a `Testimonial of Respect to the Rev Robert Newstead` reads, "contemplating the speedy departure of their minister, whose ministrations had been blessed to the edification of many, some of Newstead`s friends suggested the propriety of making him an appropriate present. Lord Granville placed his name at the head of the list and was followed by... a great number of other distinguished persons. The result was the presentation to Mr Newstead of a handsome silver salver, with a suitable inscription. The whole proceeding evinced the impression which Methodism had made in the French capital, and the high respect entertained for Mr Newstead and his family."

A good Newlyn silver and enamelled necklace, the hand-crafted chain hung with a typical central stylised seashell, enamelled in royal blue, graduating to pale turquoise, and further hung with a pair of smaller, blue- enamelled shells. A Georgian naval lieutenant's dress sword, c 1820, slender diamond section blade 26", etched with trophies and floral scrolls, nicely chiselled gilt stirrup hilt the hollow scalloped shell guards bearing crowned fouled anchors, the guard with vine leaves and shells, unusual crouching lion pommel, engraved backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip in its leather scabbard with gilt foliate engraved mounts, the hanging rings in the form of arched serpents, the locket bearing applied Neptune plaque on the front and engraved on the back "Odell Manufacturer 72 Burlington Arcade from Bond Strt" (the firm moved in 1818), the middle band with applied female figure and anchor plaque, the chape with applied foliage.
