Provenance: According to George Smith`s History of Wesleyan Methodism, Robert`s four year term in Paris was well thought of; a `Testimonial of Respect to the Rev Robert Newstead` reads, "contemplating the speedy departure of their minister, whose ministrations had been blessed to the edification of many, some of Newstead`s friends suggested the propriety of making him an appropriate present. Lord Granville placed his name at the head of the list and was followed by... a great number of other distinguished persons. The result was the presentation to Mr Newstead of a handsome silver salver, with a suitable inscription. The whole proceeding evinced the impression which Methodism had made in the French capital, and the high respect entertained for Mr Newstead and his family."
