AN EARLY GEORGE II CUP & COVER with twin. leaf-capped scroll handles and a campana-shaped body with a centrally applied reeded girdle and a spreading, low circular foot with a chased formal frieze of bell flowers, shells and matting. The lower body decorated with a calyx of alternating decorative straps, the domed cover mirroring this strapwork, below a turned & engraved knop finial. The upper body engraved on each side with a Hogarthian cartouche with putto supporters and a mural centre with an oval coat of arms & crest on one side and a lozenge's shaped coat of arms on the other. The handle sockets also with border engraving, gilt interior & incised under the foot with the scratchweight "49-18", unmarked, but probably by Paul De Lamerie, London c.1735; 10.25" (26 cms) high; 48.85 oz *Arms probably those of of Carbonell of London & Caen.
