A Victorian seed pearl and gemstone graduated fringe necklace, c.1890,with assorted gemstones to include smoky quartz, topaz, opal, emerald, sapphire, ruby and turquoise. Each faceted or cabochon gemstone, claw set in a fluted collet with a circular mixed cut white sapphire, claw set above. A fringe of three seed pearls suspended below each gemstone, and all strung to a seed pearl necklace with an oval barrel clasp and safety chain. Tested as approximately 18ct gold, clasp as 15ct gold. 370mm long, 21mm principal drop, 29.91g
A cased 18ct gold top wind hunter pocket watch, by J W Benson, London, 1890. The case 650mm diameter, with a champlevé and guilloché enamel monogram to the front cover 'R.M.' in royal blue, sky blue, red and white, to an hand engraved scrolling ground. The back case with a crest and 'Om' in Sanskrit, above the seal of the Theosophical Society composed of a star of David, an ankh, a swastika positive, and an ouroboros with cabochon ruby eye and ribbon below, with a motto believed to read 'there is no religion (or law) higher than truth' to a matching engraved ground. A white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, gold spade hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and a subsidiary power reserve dial. Movement no. 55340 signed 'Special Warrants to HM The Queen and HRH The Prince of Wales, J.W. Benson 62-64 Ludgate Hill, London'. A fitted satinwood case with pierced and engraved silver corners and a silver cartouche with matching hand engraved crest and Theosophical Seal. Commission letter from J W Benson, addressed to Calcutta and dated 1890, concerning the proposed designs to the engraved cartouche and monogram. 259.36gCondition report: Weight is 259.36g not 359.36g (typo)65mm diameter.A very large example.Tarnish to the silver corners and escutcheon, the residue of polish between the fretwork.Scratches and marks to the wooden case. Only very minor marks to the gold case.No chips or losses to the enamel monogram.No issues with the hinges or shuts.Winds and ticking but no guarantee as to running or timekeeping.No damage to the dial or hands.Light marks to the cuvette.
A late Victorian ruby and diamond cushion-shaped cluster ring, with a central cushion cut ruby, claw set to the centre. A border of cushion-shaped old Swiss cut diamonds, all in cut down collet-style settings, to a pierced scalloped gallery and chased lotus shoulders. Tested as approximately 18ct gold. Head 11.2 x 10.2mm, 3.77g.Finger size KCondition report: Table scratched with significant crown facet edge wear.Surface wear to the setting. It would be advisable to have a setter check it.Surface scratches tot he mount.Small areas of tarnish.
