A VARI GEM-SET BRACELET, adapted from a cocktail watch, the oval panel centred with a later added rectangular step-cut green synthetic spinel, bordered by millegrain channels of single-cut diamonds and square step-cut synthetic sapphires, with later added scrolled detail and segmented bracelet, together with a cultured pearl triple strand bracelet, the openwork scrolled clasp with circular-cut ruby accents, stamped '750', lengths 15.5cm and 20cm respectively (2) Condition report: First bracelet - this has been adapted from a cocktail watch and the central green stone, outer scrolled panels and segmented bracelet are later added. The back of the central panel has a hinged case where a watch movement would have fitted. This case back is heavily dented/damaged and is partly open. It appears to previously have been soldered shut to the panel. The bracelet has considerable wear throughout and areas of dark solder, with scuffs and chips to the mount, green stone and synthetic sapphires. Diamonds have variable colour and clarity, some stones with chips/surface-reaching fractures. Two diamonds are missing. Metal standard is untested and the segmented bracelet has a yellowish hue. Gross weight approx. 22.3gm. Second bracelet - Blemishes, creases, pitting and scuffs to cultured pearls, each measures approx. 6mm to 6.5mm in diameter. Scuffs, scratches and small chips to rubies, surface wear to clasp. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 35gm.

A RUBY AND DIAMOND THREE STONE RING, the oval mixed-cut ruby claw set between two round brilliant-cut diamonds, two colour precious metal mounted, total diamond weight approximately 0.30ct, ring size I Condition report: The ruby has a deep purplish-red hue with fissures/fractures and needle-like inclusions visible under magnification, light surface wear and facet edge nicks/chips, with a larger chip to one end of the stone. The ruby measures approx. 6.2mm length x 4.7mm width 2.6mm depth. Diamonds are bright and lively, with estimated I to J colour and SI1 to SI3 clarity, assessed mounted. The mount has surface wear and patchy rubbing to the sides of the claw setting. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 2.5gm.

A LATE VICTORIAN DIAMOND AND VARI GEM-SET BIRD BROOCH, modelled as a parrot perched on a branch, his body pavé set with rose-cut diamonds, with circular and cushion-shaped mixed-cut ruby set wings and eye, on a bar with single pearl highlight, gold and silver mounted, (three diamonds deficient, pearl untested for origin), length 4.1cm Condition report: Rubies are generally well matched, of deep pinkish and purplish-red hues, some stones containing fracture/feather and mineral inclusions that are visible under magnification. Rubies have localised facet edge abrasion and occasional larger chips, nicks and scuffs. The ruby to the tip of the wing is paler in hue and possibly later replaced. Largest ruby size approx. 2.5mm length x 2mm width. Diamonds have variable colour and clarity, some stones with chips and fractures, and three stones are missing. The pearl has surface wear. There is a small split to the back of the bird and both the bar and pin have been filed. The mount has general surface wear, scuffs, chips and nicks, with patchy tarnishing and thinning to the edges of the settings. The brooch pin and hook clasp appear to be later replaced and have dark solder joins at the junctions to the mount. There is a hole to the back of the bar, presumed to be part of manufacture, and a nearby small split. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 5.4gm.

A RUBY, OPAL AND DIAMOND SET BANGLE, of hinged oval form, set to the top with a line of cabochon opal flowerheads, each centred with a cushion-shaped mixed-cut ruby in collet setting, spaced by similarly set cushion-shaped old-cut diamonds, yellow precious metal mounted, total diamond weight approximately 0.20ct, inner diameter 6cm Condition report: Rubies are well matched, of pinkish-red hues, some stones with faint colour zoning, fractures/feather inclusions and areas of iridescent ‘silk’ inclusions. All have surface abrasion, scuffs and chips. Rubies graduate from approximately 4mm x 3mm to 4.5mm x 3.5mm in length x width. Diamonds are well matched, bright and lively, but one stone is chipped and another stone has a surface-reaching fracture. Estimated SI1 to P3 clarity (due to chip) and H to J colour, assessed mounted. Opals have variable play of colour, most stones with shades of pink, green and blue to a whiteish ground, and all have surface scuffs, chips and fractures. One of the diamond settings has been knocked to one side and this setting has been repaired to the back with a reinforcing panel and associated dark solder joins. The bangle mount has surface wear, scuffs and nicks throughout, with a shallow dent/impression to the back. The clasp is functioning. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 21.8gm.

A CHINESE BEIJING RUBY GLASS BOWL QIANLONG 1736-95 The flaring U-shaped body raised on a short spread foot, the translucent red glass carved with a continuous scene of figures in a mountainous landscape, with pine, willow and dwellings dispersed through the setting, 18.6cm. Provenance: sold in these rooms on 15th July 2006, lot 174; and then a Hong Kong private collection; and then a deceased estate, Hampshire.

A mid 20th century diamond and ruby double clip brooch, the shaped geometric panels, the pierced radiating panels set with brilliant cut and baguette cut diamonds, approximately 4.22 carats total, with removable brooch fitting, 6.5cm long, 27.4g grossCondition Report: The diamonds are bright and lively, all present and correct, colour mostly H-J, clarity mostly VS-SI. The rubies are fairly well matched, one row of rubies is a bit pinker than the other. There are some signs of solder to the reverse on one clip in particular, not noticeable to the front, the clip pins were later soldered on as an extra safety precaution, meaning when they are worn as clips they are secure, brooch fitting in good working order. There is some light abrasion to the crown facet edges. There is a small split under the gallery where the setting meets the finger, there are three patches of solder joining the central cluster to the lobed cluster, all diamonds are present and correct, bright and lively. A late Victorian and later ruby and diamond brooch/pendant, centred with a late Victorian old mine cut diamond and ruby cluster, circa 1890, the cushion cut ruby estimated to weigh 3.30 carats, diamonds approximately 0.90 carats total, within a later oval cut ruby and old cut diamond surround, approximately 0.60 carats total, with removable brooch fitting, 3.5cm long, 8.9g grossCondition Report: The ruby in the central pendant has numerous inclusions, but none appear to be surface reaching to the table, although at the back of the stone there do appear to be some surface reaching fractures near the setting at the base of the stone, some very minor surface rubbing some small nicks. The diamonds are mostly VS - SI Clarity (a few minor inclusions), no visible chips to the smaller rubies. The rubies in the outer mount all appear original, no visible nicks or chips. An Art Deco ruby and diamond clip brooch, circa 1930, the pierced rectangular panel with tapered end pavé set with old brilliant cut, eight cut and pear cut diamonds with a scrolled black enamelled branch detail, within a border of shaped cabochon rubies, the gem set panel stamped with a French poincon, the clasp signed Lacloche, 2.8cm long, 11.3g grossCondition Report: The front panel dating to 1930. The clip fitting is in our opinion later, and so the signature is also in our opinion later, however the front panel is the quality of Lacloche and so the signature may be replacing what was originally there. The stamp to the front is a French platinum mark. There is a chip to the black enamel and some lead solder to the point behind the chip, all diamond present and correct, bright and lively, a couple of abraded rubies. There is also a thin split to the setting towards the inner of one of the corners to the diamond setting, one of the diamonds in the similar area is also slightly knocked into the setting, and another diamond has worn through a small section of the setting above it, however all diamonds are secure. The ruby has numerous fractures, and a number of surface reaching fractures, there is a knock to the side of the ruby with a fracture by it, and some nibbles to another side of the stone.Condition Report Disclaimer
