A LARGE WHITE JADE AND GILT-COPPER RUYI SCEPTER, QING DYNASTYChina, 18th-19th century. Superbly decorated to the sinuous shaft in high relief with numerous cranes and peaches borne on gnarled leafy branches amid clouds and rockwork against a finely punched ground, framed by two borders with evenly spaced lotus sprays against a similarly punched ground, all above a Shou character flanked by two bats in flight. The head with a band of T-scroll above scrolling vines framing the translucent white jade plaque carved in high relief with a bat flying above two peaches borne on a gnarled leafy branch.Provenance: From an English private collection. George V 18ct gold three stone garnet ring, the graduated oval cuts with trios of diamonds between, Birmingham 1911, size R, 6.2g gross approxCondition report: The ring appears in fair condition. The claws have worn and may need attention if the ring is to be worn. The three garnets have signs of wear to the surface, mostly scratches but some pitting also. The diamonds are fairly white-slightly tinted in colour, with internal inclusions, and two with chips/abrasions. The mount with usual signs of wear and tear, mostly surface scratches and evidence of sizing to the shank. The garnets have not been tested. The central stone 7mm x 5mm x3.5mm deep approx, the others 6.5mm x 5.5mm approx. Attributed to Franz Hansel (1802-1883), monumental mid-19th Century large Bohemian ruby-flashed goblet and cover, the tapered bowl with finely engraved panel of a Turkish horseman posing next to his mount in a desert landscape with palm trees, surrounded by engraved arabesque decoration and with a single oculus viewing lens on the reverse, over faceted baluster stem and spreading foot cut with petal-shaped lobes, the conforming cover with grape and vine engraving and faceted flanged finial, 48cm high overallFootnote: Franz Hansel (1802-1883) is noted for his fine engravings of Turkish horseman and for the understated treatment of his compositions.
