A large William De Morgan Livadia vase and cover by Fred Passenger, moulded in relief with bands of stylised scaly fish, the two handles modelled as winged grotesques each with twin scrolled fish tails. in ruby and copper lustre, the cover modelled with foliage and stiff leaf foliage finial painted F P monogram finial off, chips 38cm high Literature: William Gaunt & M D E Clayton-Stamm William De Morgan Studio Vista, page 122 plate 114 for the two Livadia vases. Clayton-Stamm is a little confused with the purpose of these two vases, now in the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, stating their design for both the Tsar of Russia's summer palace and also his liner. This vase is a variant on the design illustrated in Clayton-Stamm with differing handles and also a raised, moulded band of decoration to the body.
