A Diamond, Sapphire and Ruby Armorial Shield Jewel, Studdert Family, the divided shield inset with round cut and cabochon sapphires to one side, rubies to the other, with four stars overlaid, set with brilliant cut and rose cut diamonds, measures 3cm by 3.8cm The Studdert family were the one time inhabitants of Bunratty Castle, County Clare. This jewel is believed to have been commissioned from Dibdin of Sloane St, by Charles Studdert who was working there as manager in the 1960's. Charles Studdert was the uncle of the vendor. Sold with an original design sketch. Further illustrative documents can be viewed. The badge is in good condition. It fastens with a pin and visor catch and features a safety chain. It bears no hallmark, nor stamps, but in our opinion it would test as gold. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; caratweight 0.50, colour I/J/K, clarity SI1/SI2/I1. Gross weight 14.8 grams. The shank is quite worn, particularly at the base. The mount looks 19th century. It bears no hallmark, nor stamps, but in our opinion it would test as gold and silver.
