ALFIED MARTIN WAS BORN AT FINAGHY, BELFAST IN 1920. IN 1938, LIKE MANY YOUNG MEN AT THAT TIME, HE WAS HIT BY A FEELING OF PATRIOTISM. FORBIDDEN BY HIS MOTHER FROM JOINING THE ROYAL AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE - IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS! - IN JANUARY 1939 HE INSTEAD JOINED THE ANTRIM FORTRESS COMPANY, RPYAL ENGINEERS. THIS WAS A TERRITORIAL ARMY COMPANY TRAINING ONE EVENING A WEEK IN CENTRAL BELFAST. CALLED UP IN AUGUST 1939 HE SERVED WITH THE ENGINEERS AT KILROOT, HELENS BAY AND MAGILLIGAN BEFORE JOINING THE ROYAL AIR FORCE IN MAY 1941. IT WAS WHILE SERVING WITH NO 102 SQUADRON RAF, AT POCKLINGTON, YORKSHIRE, AS AN OBSERVER ON HALIFAX BOMBER HR663, THAT HIS AIRCRAFT WAS SHOT DOWN OVER THE FRENCH-BELGIAN BORDER. ELVIS PRESLEY PERSONALLY OWNED AND WORN DIAMOND AND RUBY 14K GOLD RING. The 14k gold "nugget" style ring is set with 6 diamonds and 2 rubies. Gifted to a fan (Mrs Cheryl Woods) after a concert at the Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, Texas during June of 1975. After the fan passed away it was sold by her daughter to a Mr James P.Byers who knew the original owner and actually witnessed Elvis gift her the ring in 1975 (as per letter). He then sold it onto the Elvis-A-Rama museum in the year of 2000. Includes a signed statement of authenticity from the previous owner along with a signed Elvis-A-Rama letter of authenticity from Chris Davidson.
