A fine quality Victorian four piece silver tea and coffee service, George John Richards, London, 1849, of baluster form with segmented bulb design, comprising teapot, coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl with gilt wash interior, repoussé floral and foliate decoration, scroll handles, each having an armorial to one side and vacant cartouche to the other and raised with four cast foliate scroll feet, the teapot and coffee pot having a cast bird finial, coffee pot, 10½in. (26.7cm.) high, gross weight 74 tr.oz. (4)
A Chinese porcelain armorial part tea service, 18th century, comprising a globular teapot, a sparrow beak cream jug, a tea caddy, a slop bowl, a smaller bowl, a small saucer dish, four coffee cans, ten tea bowls and seven saucers, all painted with an armorial and flowers in iron red, black and gilt, the teapot 6in. (15.25cm.) high; together with an 18th century Chinese deep supper dish, crescent form, painted in iron red and gilt with a long life mark below a bat, amidst peony blooms and foliage, 7 5/8in. (19.3cm.) long; and a late 18th century Chinese export plate painted with a farmer and a pig in a landscape, 8¾in. (22.25cm.) diameter, some damage. (29)* Condition: All with some gilt wear.- Teapot: Large glaze chip to finial. Otherwise good.- Cream jug: Good condition with no faults.- Tea caddy: Large chip from rim.- Slop bowl: Piece off from rim and two hairlines.- Smaller bowl: Piece off from rim and badly cracked.- Saucer dish: Good cdn.- Coffee cans: Three with tiny chip/glaze flakes to rim. The fourth badly cracked and with two chips.- Tea bowls: Three with a couple of tiny rim chips. Four with hairline cracks/tiny chips. Three with rim chips.- Saucers: Three good. Two with single tiny chip. One with two hairlines. One with large rim chip.- Supper dish: Good cdn.- Export plate: Gilt decoration worn. Restoration to centre of plate.
A rare and important WSPU Exhibition Suffragette tea service by H.M Williamson, Longton designed by Sylvia Pankhurst, each piece initialled 'WSPU' with angel, accompanying banner and trumpet set against dark prison bars surrounded by thistle, shamrock, rose and dangling chains, the service comprising teapot and cover, cream jug, sugar bowl, three teacups (one chipped and cracked), six saucers and six plates, transfer-printed factory marks (19) This design was created by Sylvia Pankhurst as a commission for a Suffragette Exhibition in 1909 before being sold in a fundraising event in sets of up to twenty-two pieces, with an original purchase price of 10s 6d per complete set. To find such a comprehensive service is exceptionally rare given that the majority of these sets have been split up and sold individually over the course of the last century.
