One coffee cup is damaged. Slop bowl is damaged. One side plate is damaged. One large plate is broken in half, the other has glaze cracks. Cups have very dull ring. There is some gilt loss here and there, but overall quite good

He lived his later years back in Edinburgh in the New Town at 22 Heriot Row and is buried in Dean Cemetery. The town of Hooghly was a major commercial centre and the largest port in Bengal until commercial enterprise focus shifted to Calcutta.

LUCKNOW - AN INDIAN THREE PIECE TEA SERVICE UNMARKED, CIRCA 1900 Comprising teapot, twin handled sugar basin and milk jug, each of globular form, heavily chased decoration throughout, the handles modelled as serpents with ivory inserts, elephant finial to the teapot (3) 16.5cm high (teapot), 29.4oz (combined) The style of Lucknow silverware can be mainly be identified by that of jungle scenes, coriander flowers, hunting scenes, and village life. Furthermore a fish motif taken from the Royal Coat of Arms of the Nawabs of Lucknow is another indication of stylistic origin. The Muslim Mughal rulers, the Nawabs had employed silversmiths in their courts prior to the British Raj rule of the 1850s and thus their work continued, but with some British influences and influences from other regions under the British raj. One key identifier is unlike the British hallmark, the silversmith presents their mark as an ornate depiction to the underside of the piece, sometimes an engraved or chased animal or organic motif.
