BENGAL - AN INDIAN PRESENTATION TEA CADDY UNMARKED, EARLY 20TH CENTURY Of rectangular outline, heavily chased pastoral scenes to the sides of the body, the hinged lid with cast floral border and engraved presentation inscription 'PRESENTED TO The Honorable Sir Andrew Henderson Leith Fraser K.C.S.I./ LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF BENGAL/ by/ The Members of the District Board of Hooghly/ FEBRUARY 6  16cm wide, 26oz  Andrew Henderson Leith Fraser KCSI (14 November 1848 â€“ 26 February 1919)Born in Bombay, he was educated at Edinburgh Academy, but returned to the Indian Civil Service in 1871 achieving first the role of Chief Commisioner of Central Provinces in 1899 and then the Lieutenant Governor position in 1902. He lived his later years back in Edinburgh in the New Town at 22 Heriot Row and is buried in Dean Cemetery. The town of Hooghly was a major commercial centre and the largest port in Bengal until commercial enterprise focus shifted to Calcutta.

LUCKNOW - AN INDIAN THREE PIECE TEA SERVICE UNMARKED, CIRCA 1900 Comprising teapot, twin handled sugar basin and milk jug, each of globular form, heavily chased decoration throughout, the handles modelled as serpents with ivory inserts, elephant finial to the teapot (3) 16.5cm high (teapot), 29.4oz (combined) The style of Lucknow silverware can be mainly be identified by that of jungle scenes, coriander flowers, hunting scenes, and village life. Furthermore a fish motif taken from the Royal Coat of Arms of the Nawabs of Lucknow is another indication of stylistic origin. The Muslim Mughal rulers, the Nawabs had employed silversmiths in their courts prior to the British Raj rule of the 1850s and thus their work continued, but with some British influences and influences from other regions under the British raj.
