Minton First Period Part Tea and Coffee Set, circa 1805 pattern nr 180 'Nelson's Flame', comprising one tea pot and cover, one tea pot stand, sugar basin and cover, milk jug, two bread and butter plates, seven coffee cups, seven tea cups, one tea cup of a different design, eleven saucers. Provenance: In the mid-19th Century Mr Herbert Minton wrote to Mrs Boultbee of Salford Vicarage of the 'Nelson Flame' Pattern Tea Service, in the letter he confirmed that the shape was modelled in 1805 and the pattern was designed at the death of Nelson which took place on the 21st October of the same year. The set is understood to have been made for Mr Boultbee of Liverpool (father of Rev. Thomas Boultbee of Salford & Bidford) in recognition and gratitude for a money loan to help Mr Minton establish his factory. The service has remained in the Boultbee family since that time.
