Early Victorian five piece silver tea and coffee service by Benjamin Smith, Duke Street Lincoln's Inn Fields. The highly decorative set is of compressed lobed circular form, embossed and chased with flowers with acorn and oak leaf finial's. Comprising Silver tea kettle on spirit burner stand, tea pot, coffee pot, sugar basin and cream jug in original fitted oak bound trunk. London hallmarks 1841. Weight 162 troy ozs approx. Label to box engraved John Wood Esq. Kettle on stand in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Nothing is missing there is a small patch of discolouration on kettle stand, burner is good. Teapot has been used (black on inside) 2 silver pins securing handle are missing. In good overall condition. Sugar bowl is in good condition, gilding is in tact inside bowl. No signs of damage. Hot water jug is in very good condition with no signs of damage. Cream jug is in good condition, there is a slight tiny dent in the body of the jug. Foot slightly warped, gilding partly there.
An impressive Victorian matched silver four-piece tea and coffee service, with spirit kettle and two-handled trayThe service comprising; spirit kettle and stand, teapot, coffee pot, sugar bowl with matched tongs and cream jug, of bellied form embossed with fluted decoration and reeded angular handles, the domed covers with carved ebonised finials, the spirit kettle stand with embossed fluting and four scroll legs supporting a removable burner; the tray of shaped rectangular form with an applied gardooned rim, the centre profusely engraved with sprays of flowers and leaves, all around a central oval crest engraving and motto, 'Veritas me dirigit', by Elkington & Co. Ltd, Birmingham 1895, 1896 & 1897, height of spirit kettle 36cm, to a wooden case, with paper work from 1898, weight combined approx. 287.5oz (7)N.B. The crest of a badger in front of an oak sapling crest has been recorded for BROCKLEHURST family.
