An early 19thC Spode part tea and coffee service, with pattern 889 decoration, in the form of hand painted iron red and puce banded borders, of flower head and foliate decoration, with gilt outlines, comprising three teacups, nine coffee cans, three saucer dishes, a large dish, and a two handled sugar bowl and cover.

Rare écuelle couverte et présentoir en porcelaine de Meissen, à décor dit « Schneeballen », vers 1745A rare Meissen 'Schneeballen' ecuelle, cover and stand, circa 1745Each applied with a dense ground of flower-heads with the details picked out in iron-red and yellow, applied with trailing leafy branches making up the cover and ecuelle handles, the cover with a finial made up of further small flower-heads, the interior with solid gilding to both ecuelle and cover, the cover with an additional gilt scrollwork cartouche enlosing a puce camaieu landscape scene, the stand with gilt rim, 17.5cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to both stand and ecuelle, the stand with an additional impressed 22 (one handle with some restoration) (3)Footnotes:This style of applied mayflower decoration was originally applied to tea- and coffee service; Kaendler's work records include numerous mentions of such work from October 1740 onwards. The middle vases of the 1741 garniture representing the four elements intended as a gift to Louis XV were covered with mayflowers and this form of decoration was subsequently used on other vases.
