A very rare early Worcester cream jug, circa 1754, finely moulded with a strap-fluted design and scrollwork cartouches painted with chinoiserie landscapes, echoing the style of Herold's designs at Meissen in the 1720s, 10.5cm highN.B. See Simon Spero's catalogue of the Melvin Collection, fig. 21 for a matching spoon tray; Spero writes it is "probable that one service was made in this pattern as only one other example is recorded, a single tea bowl, formerly in the Bernard Watney Collection". Tiny chip to spout and another to lower terminal of the handle. Enamel wear. Otherwise in good condition.
