An Export silver rounded square three piece tea service by Tu Mao Xing, Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, circa 1880-1930, hammered overall, the tea pot with a lobed lotus bud finial to the hinged cover, a side double bamboo handle terminating in chased rocks issuing a chased prunus trunk framing a vignette chased with prunus blossom on a matted ground, 15.5cm (6in) long, 812g (26.1 oz) 清 十九/二十世纪 外销银 茶具 ( 一组三 件) The finial of the tea pot is in the form of an opening lotus flower symbolises the union of marriage and fertility. Therefore it can be assumed this service was intended as a wedding present. A Rockingham style part tea service, decorated gilded sprays on a puce ground and another part tea service somewhat similar Condition Report: White, puce and gilt set: Teapot: cover badly damaged with glued repair, losses under, some rubbing to gilt areas. Sugar basin and cover: some rubbing to gilt areas. Cream jug: slight rubbing to gilt areas. Slop bowl: faint star crack to underside, slight rubbing to gilt areas. Teapot stand: slight rubbing to gilt. Plates (6) slight losses to gilt areas. Saucers (21) one very badly damaged and glued, the remainder varying degrees of rubbing to gilt. Teacups (9) some rubbing to gilt. Coffee cups (9) slight rubbing to gilt, one with two hairline cracks from rim running three quarter of the way down the side, one with two rim chips and various cracks with glued repairs (poor) White and Gilt set: Slop bowl: hairline crack running around rim to foot. Square bread plates (2): one with slight chip to handle (with gilding over chip), one with two hairline cracks and slight crazing and staining. Saucers (8): all with slight rubbing to gilt but one with severe rubbing to gilt, another badly scratched to surface, another with few minor rim chips and bad rubbing to gilt. Teacups (7): one with bad crack from rim running half way round, one with small chip and hairline crack to rim, one with small chip and few hairline cracks to rim, two with hairline cracks to rim and restoration to handle, one with hairline crack to rim and one with bad chip to foot rim and hairline crack to rim.
