214. 1928 DOUGLAS D28 348cc OHV MOTO-BALL COMPETITION BIKE  Registration - Not registered  Engine No - EI.108  Frame No - RF 110    Motorcycle football was very popular in the mid-twenties, enthusiastic players used old   motorcycle roadsters of all makes, stripped bare of all ancillaries to make them lighter and   more manoeuvrable. Seeing a possible sales opportunity, the Douglas factory introduced a   works team, riding specially adapted D28 348cc OHV machines. They also sponsored events   and hired venues in the hope of selling some of these machines to other teams.   Unfortunately, the sales did not materialise and very few of these machines were made or exist today.  Condition - Appears complete and in fair condition although the pivoting footrest system has been removed and although not run for some time, the engine turns over freely using the   kickstart.  Comes with - No documentation.  Guide price - £4,000 to £5,000 This lot is sold ‘as is’, Bidders are to satisfy themselves with regard to its provenance, age, originality and completeness ahead of bidding.
