THE FOLLOWING THREE LOTS RELATE TO THE CAREER OF JACK (JOHN) COLL. Jack Coll was born in Downpatrick, County Down in 1893 and moved to Scotland with his family at the age of 8. His first job as a trainer was with Springburn White Rose in 1912 and following on from that spent two seasons with Townhead Bunburbs. In 1915 he was appointed to look after the Parkhead team of Glasgow at the time the club was one of the leading sides in Junior football. He spent seven years with the club. In 1922 he made the move to the United States of America and had spells with Scullion Steel, National Bricklayers Eleven and Vesper Buicks. In season 1924-25 he joined the Brooklyn Wanderers and whilst with the team he was selected to train the United States International side for matches including the inaugural 1930 World Cup finals in Uruguay A COLLECTION OF 1930 WORLD CUP EPHEMERA RELATING TO JACK COLL including his official accreditation letter, his official pass, with vignette attached, four press photographs of the U.S.A. team in Uruguay and press cuttings etc (a lot)
A RARE MATT BUSBY HAND-WRITTEN AND SIGNED LETTER ON MANCHESTER UNITED HEADED PAPER, DATED 25th OCTOBER 1945 the letter addressed to Mr Ted Edwards and reads: Dear Ted, Many thanks indeed for your letter of kind wishes which I appreciate very much indeed. My playing days with the "Reds" will always have happy memories for me. What a great pity the war came along when we looked like doing something. Still thats how it goes. I am just getting settled in my new sphere and hoping I have as happy a time there as I had when playing. Scotland, match programme, 12/5/73 (2) The above shirt was worn by George Graham in the International match against Wales played on 12th May 1973 at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham, with Scotland defeating Wales 2-0 and Graham scoring both of Scotland goals. FIFA Large hardback book "Fifa Museum Collection" 1000 Years of Football, 300 pages, lavishly illustrated and published in 1996, also in this Lot is an Italia 90 wine bottle in the shape of the World Cup with Mondiale 90 label ( wine seems to have been consumed prior to arrival at Sportingold !!!). FOOTBALL STATISTICS 13 Volumes issued by the Association of Football Statisticians covering pre and post War seasons, four pre-war volumes cover seasons 1929/30 and 30/31, 33/4 and 34/5, 35/6 and 36/7 , 37-38 and 38/9. Post-war editions 1-9 cover seasons 46-7 to 54/5 inclusive. The volumes contain football scores, scorers, attendances and League tables on a week by week basis through the seasons. Follow your club through the seasons and all the ups and downs on a weekly basis. A very useful addition to the standard annuals published each year and these volumes were issued in the 1980s by the AFS. Generally good
100 YEARS Two softback books containing almost 300 pages in each volume of Press Association photos, entitled "100 Years of Football " and "100 Years of Cricket". Each volume contains page after page of our heroes and otherwise through the years and decades, published in 2008 and containing colour and black and white photos. Very good
