After scoring 73 goals in 112 2nd Division games he was sold on to Manchester United for £6,500 in February 1938. He helped the Red Devils to win promotion in 1937-38, but then the outbreak of war in Europe robbed him of seven full seasons of First Division football.

Bobby Charlton's first professional playing contract signed on 11th October 1954 to become a Manchester United footballersigned by the player, the agreement for £7 per week, reduced to £6 during the close seasonOn 9 February 1953, then a Bedlington Grammar School pupil, Bobby Charlton was spotted playing for East Northumberland schools by Manchester United chief scout Joe Armstrong. Charlton went on to play for England Schoolboys and the 15-year-old signed with United on 1 January 1953, along with Wilf McGuinness, also aged 15. Initially his mother was reluctant to let him commit to an insecure football career, so he began an apprenticeship as an electrical engineer. However he went on to turn professional on 11th October 1954.Charlton became one of the famed Busby Babes, the collection of talented footballers who emerged through the system at Old Trafford under the managership of Matt Busby. Charlton worked his way through the pecking order of teams, scoring regularly for the youth and reserve sides before he was handed his first team debut against Charlton Athletic in October 1956.

Billy Jennings white England Youth No.8 international jersey 1967-68,long sleeved, the badge inscribed YOUTHThis jersey was worn by Billy Jennings when representing the England in the Youth team international v Northern Ireland at The Oval, Belfast, 23rd February 1968. Northern Ireland won 2-0.Jennings was selected from Hertfordshire county football and it was his only international appearance and came before he signed professional forms for Watford.

The other Cosmos scorers were Ramon Mifflin and Vito Dimitrijevic. Pele's leadership and inspiration was evident as he orchestrated wave after wave of attacks upon a beleaguered Aztecs defence. Giorgio Chinaglia full Cosmos playing kit worn in the NASL Championship Soccer Bowl v Seattle Sounders at the Civic Stadium, Portland, Oregon, 28th August 1977,comprising a green short-sleeved jersey numbered 9 to the front the right sleeve and the back, the reverse also lettered CHINAGLIA, a pair of white No.9 shorts and a pair of green socks (4)New York Cosmos centre-forward Giorgio Chinaglia scored the winning goal when the Cosmos won the '77 Soccer Bowl defeating Seattle Sounders 2-1.Chinaglia was born in Italy but grew up in south Wales and began his youth career at Swansea.Town before playing in Italian football until 1976, latterly at Lazio. He then joined Cosmos where he was spectacularly successful scoring 193 goals in 213 games and winning four Championship Rings in 1977, 1978, 1980 & 1982.In 2014 the franchise retired the Cosmos No.9 jersey. The match was between his final club New York Cosmos and the Brazilian club where he first made his name FC Santos.Pele played the first-half for the Cosmos and the second-half for his beloved Santos F.C. of Brazil. Phil Neal's 1981 Liverpool League Cup winner's medal,9ct. gold & enamel, the obverse inscribed THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP, the reverse inscribed WINNERS, 1981, in original fitted caseProvenance:The Phil Neal Collection, Christie's, 13th September 2006, lot 175.After a 1-1 draw at Wembley, Liverpool won the 1981 League Cup by beating West Ham United 2-1 in the replay at Villa Park.Despite Liverpool FC's extraordinary success at home and in Europe the League Cup Trophy was seen as a bit of a hoodoo. They had only progressed to one final in 1978 which ended in defeat to Forest. So the win over West Ham in 1981 was something of a seminal victory and one that opened the floodgates. Liverpool recorded a hat-trick of League Cup wins by retaining the trophy in 1982 and 1983, and the club has now won the competition eight times in all, a tally more than any other team.
