Slade, Kings Royal Rifle Corps Later Squadron Leader, Royal Air Force, Military Cross., G.V.R., unnamed as issued, good very fine, in case of issue, together with various original documentation including birth, marriage and deaths certificates, certificate for Military Cross dated 14.5.1918, Commission document dated 1.7.1940 (Pilot Officer, R.A.F.), certificate for M.I.D. dated 1.1.1945, newspaper cutting, black and white photograph of the recipient in uniform, a silver medal for 'St Dunstans Billiard Fund', another for 'West End Amateur Football Association' plus '59th Bde France 1918' all won by the recipient Squadron Leader William Christopher Slade, served during the Great War with the Kings Royal Rifle Corps, commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 6.2.1818, Lieutenant 1.9.1918, relinquished commission 19.3.1919, served with the Royal Air Force during WWII, commissioned Pilot Officer 1.7.1940, relinquished commission 27.7.1954. M.C. London Gazette 14.5.1918 T./Sec. Lt. (A./Capt.) W.C. Slade, K.R.R.C.- 'When in command of a company during recent operations he did great service in keeping his Commanding Officer accurately informed as to the situation during the whole day, and hung on to a very difficult position on the left flank of the battalion extricating his company after it was dark. On other occasions, though his company were being heavily shelled and suffered severe casualties he hung on to his position as long as possible and commanded his men very ably, showing great courage and coolness'.
