A Grays Sports China crested vase, Sunderland Football Club, Champions First Division 1891-2 1892-3 1894-5 and 1901-2 of tapered form depicting a Sunderland football player heading a football, 9.5 cm high together with a Rowntrees 1902 souvenir tin (2)The vase has a very faint hairline crack through the 'Champions First Division' label. Rubbing to and around the base, the base is signed A. Tarnishing to the gilt around the rim. Light scratches to the glaze, would benefit from a clean. No chips or restoration.

ABRAHAMS HAROLD: (1899-1978) British Athlete, Olympic Gold Medallist in the 100 metres sprint at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. Abrahams was immortalised in the film Chariots of Fire (1981). A.L.S., Harold M. Abrahams, two pages, 8vo, Temple, London, 11th March 1931, to 'Dear Madam'. Abrahams informs his correspondent, in part, 'Tisdall's record is of course better than mine - I was lucky enough to win three events in 1923. Fry's long jump was only ½” short of the world's record when he did it - but the record is now 26ft!! I was most interested to hear that your son was at Repton. Fry of course was a Reptonian too and in 1918 I made a desperate but unsuccessful attempt to beat his school long jump record.' VG Bob Tisdall (1907-2004) Irish Athlete, Gold Medallist in the 400 metre hurdles at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Tisdall, somewhat controversially, also achieved a World Record time in winning the medal, being the first man to complete the race in under 52 seconds. However, as he knocked over the last hurdle his achievement wasn't immediately recognised by the IAAF.C. B. Fry (1872-1956) English Sportsman who represented his country at both Cricket and Football and, in 1893, equalled the world long jump record of 23 feet 6.5 inches.
MANCHESTER UNITED: Signed colour 15¾ x 14¾ photograph by five Manchester United footballers who survived the Munich air disaster of 6th February 1958, individually, comprising Ray Wood, Bill Foulkes, Kenneth Morgans, Albert Scanlon and Harry Gregg. The image depicts the footballers in full length poses, displaying Bayern Munich football shirts with their names upon them and holding a commemorative salver. The image also features Jackie Blanchflower, whose signature is not present. All have signed in blue inks to the lower photographer's mount. EX On 6th February 1958, British European Airways flight 609 crashed on its third attempt to take off from a snow covered runway at Munich-Riem Airport, West Germany. On the plane was the Manchester United football team, nicknamed the 'Busby Babes', along with supporters and journalists. The crash resulted in 23 fatalities with 21 survivors.
MANCHESTER UNITED: Book signed, a hardback edition of The Manchester United Football Book No.3 Champions of Europe, edited by David Meek, First Edition, published by Stanley Paul, London, 1968, individually signed by eleven Manchester United footballers, most of them members of the European Cup winning team of 1968, comprising Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles, John Aston, Bill Foulkes, Alex Stepney, Pat Crerand, Brian Kidd, David Sadler, Tony Dunne, Shay Brennan and Denis Law (missing from the team due to an injury). Each signed in bold blue inks with their names alone to clear areas of the free end paper. Accompanied by the dust jacket. Together with George Best (1946-2005) Northern Ireland & Manchester United Footballer. Signed 4 x 6 postcard photograph, the image depicting Best seated in half-length pose, wearing his Manchester United football strip. ENGLAND FOOTBALL: FLOWERS RON (1934- ) English Footballer, midfielder for Wolverhampton Wanderers, 1952-67, and a member of England's victorious 1966 World Cup squad & HAYNES JOHNNY (1934-2005) English Footballer, inside forward for Fulham F.C., 1952-70, and fifty-six Caps for England, 1954-62. Signed 23½ x 9¾ photograph by both Flowers and Haynes individually, the images depicting a short series of six football action photographs taken of Flowers, supported by Haynes, as England take on Italy at Stamford Bridge, 19th January 1955. Signed by both Flowers and Haynes in bold black fountain pen ink with their names alone, to clear areas of the image. An excellent signed silver gelatin fibre based photograph of high quality. EX
