SCOTTISH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION SCOTTISH CUP WINNERS MEDAL in fifteen carat gold, won by Joseph Dodds of Celtic F.C. season 1910-1911, approximately 10.9g in total Note: Joseph 'Joe' Dodds (14th July 1887 - 14th October 1965) was a Scottish international footballer who played club football for Celtic (in two spells), Cowdenbeath and Queen of the South. Dodds was unbeaten in his three full caps for Scotland and was a quick and dependable left back. Born in Carluke, Lanarkshire, Dodds joined Celtic in the summer of 1908 from Carluke Milton Rovers. He made 351 league appearances. Dodds was considered among the Celtic greats of his era and, along with Shaw and Alec McNair, was considered to have formed one of the greatest club defences in British football. Provenance: Joe Dodd's brother was one of the troops injured in the Quintinshill Rail Disaster on 22nd May 1915 outside the Quintinshill signal box near Gretna Green in Dumfriesshire. The sister of the grandfather of the vendor was the nurse who looked after and aided the injured soldier. Grateful for her help and assistance Joe Dodd presented the nurse with his Cup Winners medal by way of thanks. Upon her death the medal passed to the vendor's grandfather and hence by descent.
