The 1908 Games were awarded to Rome but when Vesuvius erupted in 1906, it caused great problems in Italy and due to financial restraints they gave up the Games and it was awarded to London, they were the longest running games from 27th April to the skating on 28/29th October, running in conjunction with The Exhibition.
