An Accrington F.C. runners-up medal from the Lancashire Cup in season 1881-82, unhallmarked but probably silver, the obverse with Lancashire rose and football motifs and a Lancashire Football Association monogram, the reverse inscribed RUNNERS UP, ACCRINGTON, WILLIAM EASTHAM, 1881-82 This early medal relates to Accrington Football Club, one of the founding members of the Football League, but pre-dates the FL by some six years. The 1881-82 Lancashire Cup was on the third year of this prestigious competition

GRIFFITHS, 1936; sold together with Griffiths`s playing contract for the [abandoned] 1939-40 season, signed by Walter Crickmer and the player on 6th May 1939, but with an interesting hand written sub-clause reading IT IS HEREBY AGREED THAT SUBJECT TO LEAGUE FOOTBALL BEING PLAYED UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS I.E. NO INTERFERENCE BY REASON OF WAR OR THE POLITICAL SITUATION OF BRITAIN, APPLICATION WILL BE MADE TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUEFOR SANCTION TO PAY THE SAID PLAYER A BENEFIT OF £650 ON THE 13TH JANUARY 1940 (2) Jack Griffiths was born at Fenton, Staffordshire, 15th September 1909. He joined Manchester United in 1934 after five years as a professional at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bolton Wanderers where he scarcely got a boot in first team football. United signed the left-back as a replacement for Jack Silcock and quickly became a first-team regular, making a total of 173 appearances until his career was effectively ended by the outbreak of War in September 1939. He finished his footballing days as player coach at Hyde United, and then became a practising physiotherapist in Gee Cross. Jack Griffiths died in 1975
