A familiar sight throughout Japan, large, shiny and black karasu (crows) also feature heavily in both Japanese culture and mythology. Since then, the crow has been seen as evidence of divine intervention in human affairs and the Yatagarashu has become a symbol of the Japanese imperial institution, used on banners at the enthronement ceremonies of Japanese emperors and even seen in the logo of Japan's national football team.
