ARSENAL 1894 Arsenal match-card for friendly v Aston Villa, 15th January 1894 at Manor Field, measures approx 7" x 11" (18cm x 29cm). Front has team-lists brief notes by "A.C" and a four line poem by "A.C". The reverse has a half page advert for Ayres Football Manufacturer and approx 15 one or two line adverts for tradesmen based in Woolwich and Plumstead. The match card itself has no writing but has a horizontal fold across the centre and there is a tear at the bottom edge which leads into a hole where the card has worn away. This affects three players named in the Villa line-up but the Arsenal line-up and eight of the Villa side is completely intact and the three Villa players names affected can be ascertained. Obviously a very scarce item, not necessarily issued by Arsenal but available on the day at or near to the Woolwich Arsenal ground. 6,000 people saw Villa, then a top team, defeat Second level Arsenal 3-1. A photograph is included in the printed catalogue. As described

SHEFFIELD UTD / BURSLEM PORT VALE 1898 Sheffield United home programme v Burslem Port Vale, 29/1/1898, FA Cup, volume 1 number 13, not ex bound volume. This Cup-tie ended 1-1 and in a shock result Vale won the replay. At the time Shef Utd were top of the First Division and Vale had not yet been elected to the Football League. Vale lost 3-0 at Burnley in the next round whilst Sheffield United won the Champions title by 5 points. The programme is a 16 page issue from the first year of The Sheffield United Football Programme. Although the staple has been removed there are rust marks and minor rust holes but happily no print has been affected. There is a minor hole on the back cover but once again print is not affected. No writing and condition is at least "Fair" in our opinion. As described
WAKEFIELD CITY AFC / DONCASTER ROVERS This programme is Wakefield City AFC v Doncaster Rovers, 5/11/1921, Midland League. Wakefield City were formed as a limited company in February 1921 and joined the Midland League with a view to becoming members of the new Division 3 North of the Football League. It was not to be as City only obtained 4 votes, even Castleford Town reached 18 votes but the attempt to introduce football into a rugby area failed dismally. The expense of being in the Midland League proved too much for the club to sustain and in 1922-23 they joined the Yorkshire League and in 1927-28 they folded with only one victory in their last 2 seasons. This exceedingly scarce programme has been extensively repaired as it was previously in a dire state. Now it has been cleaned, treated for mould, had tape removed, set down on long fibre Japanese tissue, pressed dry, humidified and missing areas filled with repair tissue, originally a single sheet issue, it is largely intact as missing areas are relatively small, but as stated it has been attached to a backing ultra-thin tissue (23gsm) to provide some more solid backing. The only season for this long defunct club in the Midland League and against Doncaster Rovers who were themselves a non-League club at the time being elected to the Division 3 North in 1923-24 when two new clubs were added to the Division. As described
