Concorde Circuit board and Brian Trubshaw signed certificate. Concorde Circuit Board 2 & Brian Trubshaw signed COA. British Airways Concorde 002 printed circuit board Version 2. This circuit board was one of the very instruments that was fitted to Concorde 002 to make that historical flight. This circuit board was authenticated by Brian Trubshaw to be genuine and originate from flight research systems installed on Concorde prototype 002 GBSST between 1969/1972 as part of the civil supersonic flight research programme undertaken between the British Aircraft Corporation and Aerospatiale France. Brian has personally signed a Certificate of Authenticity to accompany this circuit board. This is a genuine autograph/signature by Brian Trubshaw and not a printed copy, this signature alone is very unique and has to be just as collectable as this circuit board. Concorde 002 made her first UK test flight on 9th April 1969 by BACs' chief test pilot Brian Trubshaw; Brian flew Concorde 002 from Filton to Fairford. Brian Trubshaw was the first British pilot to fly Concorde in April 1969. Trubshaw, who sadly passed away on 25 March 2001, shot to fame when he first flew Concorde in April 1969 on a flight from Filton to its Test base at RAF Fairford. He emerged from Concorde 002's then futuristic cockpit with the words: 'it was wizard - a cool, calm and collected operation.í The measurements of the circuit board are approximately 11.5 inches x 4.25 inches. •AFTER `SNAFFLES` (1884-1967) THE FINEST VIEW IN EUROPE; THE WORST VIEW IN EUROPE The pair, offset lithographs, with hand colouring, each on support sheet with printed remarque (left handed fence cutter, First Aid man at race course respectively), the former with blindstamp, each signed in pencil Images each 26 x 56cm. approx. (2) * These celebrated images, described by John Welcome and Rupert Collens in `Snaffles On Racing and Point-to-Pointing` (London, 1988) as `two of the most famous sporting prints produced this century` span a period of about eleven years from 1914-1925. `The Finest View..` (first published c.1914) looks across the Spratton Vale towards Brixworth in Leicestershire and exists in several variations. The earliest version shows the rider's gloved hands holding a whip whilst a variant produced for `Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News` in November 1920 omits most of the hounds and shows a second rider ahead but on the left. Only the grey's rider's right knuckle can be seen holding a whip. Later editions from c.1925 removed the rider's hands and showed progressively less of the horse's neck. The horse itself is believed to be `Rifle Brigade`, in truth a bay rather than a grey. The dispersal of the trees varies between images and the huntsman is shown in different positions with hounds in different places too. Even the remarques vary with the hedger holding his brush hook in different hands. This lot is apparently version 3 of 4, post 1920. `The Worst View..` was inspired by the 1901 Grand National at Aintree but dates from c.1922. It shows the eventual winner Arthur Nightingall on Grudon approaching the notorious Bechers Brook during a race that was notable for its squally blizzards and two inches of hazardous snow on the ground. The hapless jockey who has just taken a nasty fall and the riderless grey to Nightingall's right hint at the severe perils that lie ahead. A variant of this subject shows a crowd beyond rails to the left and a different arrangement of the three horses but the treacherous snowfall is not apparent in either subject. ++ Each slightly faded; support sheets a little light-stained

FRANCIS LINDO (1714-1767) FAMILY PORTRAIT OF JAMES ERSKINE, LORD ALVA (1722-1796), WITH HIS WIFE MARGARET AND THEIR TWO CHILDREN, 1761 Oil on canvas, in the fine original carved wood frame decorated with the Erskine coat of arms, signed and dated F. Lindo pinxt 1761 lower left corner. 90 x 121cm. * Erskine was the only son of Sir Charles Erskine Bt (1680-1763), Lord Tinwald, Justice Clerk of Scotland and his wife Grizel, daughter of John Grierson of Barjarg. He was appointed Lord of Sessions in Scotland (a senior judiciary role) and took the title Lord Barjarg (named for the family property on his mother's side, later sold) and subsequently changed his name to Lord Alva. Erskine married Margaret Maguire (1729-1766) in 1749. They had three children: Charles (1751-1761, commemorated in the portrait held here by his father), Isabella and John. After Margaret's death at the age of 37, Erskine married Jean Stirling in 1772 and she bore him a daughter, also called Jean. Lord Alva and his family also feature in a more significant group portrait by David Allan (1744-1796), an Edinburgh portraitist who worked in the tradition of artists like Romney, Batoni and Zoffany. Alva made keen efforts to establish Allan's career in the 1760's and he commissioned a portrait in 1780 to reflect his being founder-subscriber of St Cecilia's Hall, the venue for the Musical Society of Edinburgh. The work may be seen in the Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh. Provenance: By descent in the family of the sitter. ++ Old lining; some associated retouching; some craquelure; a little thin in a few places

A FINE QUARTER REPEATING GOLD CASED WATCH BY JOSIAH EMERY Charing cross, London No. 1238 circa 1790. 55mm The movement with ruby cylinder escapement, chain fusee, bimetallic compensated regulator, pierced and engraved balance cock with diamond end-stone. The movement dumb quarter repeating onto the signed and numbered dust cap.The interesting enamel dial (cracked) with subsidiary seconds and Arabic numerals. The dial is further painted with a running fox "Tally Ho "and "Raby Hunt" The watch would probably have originally been in a pair case which was more in keeping with the period. Date hallmark of case obscured but with case maker's marks of SG below a heart for Stephen Gillet, 12, Compton Street, London (stamp registered 13 May 1793). The case may have been updated at the requested of the original owner around 1800-1810.  The movement of the watch is in fairly good condition and should function well after servicing. The escapement functions under pressure. Together with gold chain and five fob seals with intaglio engraved stones. Provenance It is likely that the watch originally belonged to William Harry Vane first Duke of Cleveland of the second creation and third Earl of Darlington (1766-1842) of Raby Castle, Co Durham. Further, that it was inherited by his second wife, Elizabeth Russell (d 1861), who was allowed to choose which of his possessions she wished on his death. She was daughter of Robert Russell of Newton, Yorkshire, from whom the vendors are descended. The Duke was a notable sportsman and lived at Raby Castle for much of the year. He began to hunt his father's hounds in 1787. His hounds were divided into two packs, one of large breed and one of small, which he hunted on alternate days. He paid considerable sums to his tenants for the preservation of foxes and successfully opposed the first Stockton and Darlington railway in 1820 because in its course it encroached on a favourite covert (DNB). The seals reflect the ownership of the watch - ·
