A Bush Type 22 8in Television Set,A Bush Television Type 22 Television Set, fully restored by the vendor with a Dominoe 625 - 405 line converter with a SCART lead, built and designed by Malcom Everiss, the Bush Radio Television Reciever Type TV22's main claim to fame was that it was the first British television that could be tuned, by the owner, to any one of the two then current BBC transmitters. It was also able to tune to the further three proposed channels. The Bush TV22 is an icon of early 1950s bakelite sets and highly desirable today, although in its day it was one of the cheapest sets available (at £35 and 10 shillings) - it was intended for those who couldn't afford a set with a ‘proper’ wooden cabinet. The post-war timber shortage was the main reason why some TV manufacturers used other materials for the cabinets. Condition PAT test fail as there is no earth to the chassis. Powers up and works well in conjunction with the converter

In 1854 he started work for George Moore, manufacturer of soda water and in 1855, after an argument, perhaps an attempt at blackmail, he shot and killed Moore and another, Charles Collard, a neighbouring green grocer and ex-policeman who tried to stop him escaping. L.S. Lowry R.A. (British 1887-1976) "The Old Handball Court, Nelson, Glamorgan", signed, titled and dated 6 Nov 1961, pencil drawing on a paper napkin.16cm x 15.5cm (6.25in x 6in)Footnote:The drawing was given as a gift to the vendor's father from the artist Percy Warburton who was Head of Bury School of Art and a close friend to L.S. Lowry. Through friendship with Mr Warburton, Lowry became actively involved with the Bury Art Society and became its second President. L.S. Lowry would often call to visit Percy Warburton socially and on these occasions would use the bus stop directly in front of the vendor’s then family home in Holcombe Brook. He can recall Lowry calling in to speak with his father and admire a painting they owned by James McIntosh Patrick. Lowry's trips to Wales in the 60's with Monty Bloom are well documented and an exhibition of the Welsh Lowry's was held in The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea in 2002. It was businessman Monty Bloom, born in Ebbw Vale, who introduced Lowry to the Valleys of South Wales in the 1960's. Bloom recognised the appeal the grim contrast of spoil hills side by side with real mountains would have on the artist. Aged 77, Lowry embarked on a new era of painting inspired by the Welsh scenery, and began working in a new, intuitive and experimental way. Together, Lowry and Bloom made visits to the area every six months or so and it is thought that this sketch may have been made upon his return from such a trip. It certainly seems to correspond to the dateline of the early 1960’s and one can well imagine Lowry drawing this whilst in discussions with Percy Warburton and noting the exact location where he had seen the rather unusual free-standing Handball Court in Nelson. As was his want he has then added his familiar figures and passed the sketch to his friend as a gift. Percy Warburton was known to have several drawings and paintings given to him by Lowry and many have been sold over the years at major London salerooms.Artists' Resale Right ("droit de suite") may apply to this lot.Condition report:The drawing is in very good, original condition with no obvious faults to report. There is some very slight time staining to the napkin. The drawing is framed and glazed. The frame has some minor scuffs and scratches commensurate with age.

F.H.M" [Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man] in an unknown hand, addressed to Marjorie (Forster, nee Stirling, see autograph letters). *Lots 265 309Dennis Silk met Siegfried at Fenners cricket ground on a late May afternoon in 1953. Siegfried had come up to Cambridge to receive an honorary fellowship at his old college, Clare, and his friend of 40 years, Edmund Blunden, like Dennis an old boy of Christ’s Hospital, had asked him to look in at the University Cricket Ground and introduce himself. Dennis remembered well the gaunt, handsome stranger who marched up to the Pavilion with a long-forked hazel staff in his hand. He looked up at the rows of seated spectators and said in a tone of inquiry and a little awkwardly, “Dennis Silk”. When Dennis identified himself, he replied simply “Siegfried Sassoon”.This was the prelude to 13 years of unalloyed friendship. Staying at Heytesbury in the holidays and talking endlessly late into the night about “my old war” sitting in his lovely library. And later, when Dennis went to teach at Marlborough, their friendship grew. When Dennis and I met one Christmas holiday and became engaged I was taken to meet Siegfried. It was in 1963, the year of the snow and we took tea sitting in front of the library fire. He and Dennis talked, and I sat quietly, and Siegfried hardly appeared to notice my presence. When we went to leave, he stood in the Hall in front of the door and opened wide his arms, gave me an enormous hug, and just as quickly released me. I felt that all would be well.Diana Silk,May 2021

It was caused by my reading those tiresome utterances of R. Graves reported in the Times from his latest lecture. They made me look up his review of the F.H. Man, - the only stupid & egotistical one it received. I hadn't read the Craiglockhart chapters of S's P. since I raised proofs for a reprint in January 1940…It brought Rivers back to me intensely real…I think that final, disillusioned effort of soldiering was pretty creditable. Sassoon, Siegfried. A series of 36 ALsS to his childhood friend, Marjorie Forster, (from 1949, Mrs. Shaw), 1915-66. Many signed with monogram. Approx. 57pp.+ FULL LISTINGS [Available upon request]Marjorie, nee Stirling, was the daughter of Judge Sir James Stirling, who lived at Finchcocks, near Weirleigh in Kent, and SS saw her often as a child. She married Cecil Charles Forster, a retired tea planter, in 1914. She is referred to in chapter 3 of The Weald of Youth as an early dancing partner at local balls "in the days before motor-cars were much in use" and " 'Do you reverse?…How those words bring my silly self back to me, with my inability to make my white ties look as effortless as other young men's…"These letters and the presentation copies of his books were given to Dennis and Diana Silk by Marjorie's son John Forster. We are grateful to Max Egremont for providing the information about Marjorie's background.
Sassoon, Siegfried. 15 ALsS to Miss Muriel Silk (aunt and guardian of Dennis Silk), 1953 - 64, signed with monogram. Approx. 16pp., 8vo., with 12 envelopes. A warm and friendly series, all from Heytesbury. On 27.9.54, "Dennis has been a blessing to me since I first met him. And if I am any use to him - as you say - I regard it as a privilege"; 4.11.54, "Dennis is so good for me. He makes me feel young…(Gwen Raverat remarked on the lovely quality of his voice)"; 28.2.55, he hopes Dennis will go to Marlborough, and "I've had nearly 50 nice letters about The Tasking, which has cheered me up"; 29.7.55, "I gloat over the restored cassone while sipping my tea & coffee. I only wish dear Robbie Ross (who bequeathed it to me) could see your work"; 16.12.59, "I hope I did right in advising D[ennis] to accept the M.C.C. offer. It seemed to me that the cricket world is where he belongs, and that he will be happier than in the stress of schoolmastering…" ; 24.3.63, pleasure in Dennis's engagement; 12.9.64, the birth of his first child, "…the crowning joy of my ten years of Dennis…as it is for you, who have been his good angel always." Muriel Silk was apparently a very good picture restorer until she became allergic to turpentine. She presumably worked on the painted cassone (Italian marriage chest).
Sassoon, Siegfried. ALS to Storrs (Sir Ronald, 1881-1955, governor of Jerusalem etc.) Heytesbury House, 4.1.46, 1p, 8vo., "Your postcard adds to my satisfaction about the wonderful reception "The Journey" is having from those for whose enjoyment it was written. To provide civilised mental relief from the oppression of things as they are now - that was my purpose." [In an ALS to Marjorie Forster, 19th December 1943, SS describes Storrs as "a noisy bounder", after they both attended a dinner party given by Lady Cholmondeley, SS's cousin, see lot ] With an ALS from the same to Mr. Fabes (Gilbert Fabes, 1894-1973, bookseller), Wilsford Manor, 12.10.30. 1p., 8vo. Blunden, Edmund (1896-1974). 10 ALsS to his long time friend Siegfried Sassoon, "Dearest Siegfried": 2 of them folded air letters from Hong Kong, 1962 & 1964; 7 from Hall Mill, Long Melford, April-June 1966, and one from Mill House, Long Melford, n.d. 10pp., 8vo. The undated letter probably dates from c. 1961 since it refers to SS's "Collected Poems, 1908-56", published 1961 "I think some of those reviewers of us would in private, if they read it, admit that they had got things wrong." Also "The last of Stevens Cox's Hardy pamphlets is irritating me: it is by a lady who was a friend of Florence but contemptuous of T.H." From the University of Hong Kong, 22 Oct. 1962, he looks forward to living in Long Melford (SS bought the house for the family) and "I am reading a furiously detailed account of Verdun, by a Canadian writer, and it sounds as if the insanity all round was rather violent. But the Somme was apparently a more modern battle…I have the impression that the French infantry , grand lads, were comparatively untrained, perhaps all the same they could whistle. The generals look zoological." He also refers to the poems of Ivor Gurney. On 11th March 1964 he commiserates on the departure of SS's cook, "I can only offer one of our Chinese young ladies, if I could find one without fetters…"; he has heard that W.H. Auden will be a neighbour at Long Melford, "I knew him years ago, and we should have no great worries, except his bombastic noises about the Muses who anyway won't be very vigorous locally"; on 30th April 1966 he refers to his Oxford appointment [the Professorship of Poetry], "Then, old Robert [Graves, the previous holder] has written in his kindest style, with some unkind remarks on the poets now scoring. I must expect arguments on these when I am in Oxford." 5th "June 1966, concern at hearing that SS is in hospital; comments on the Test match, and "I rather think that among my Oxford lectures one on the poets of War I will annoy some of the boys: and yet, I found lately that many of the present generation are quite sensible, eager over the poets whom Eddie Marsh would nominate". On 28th June 1966 he mentions staying with Rupert Hart-Davis, who "is preparing a bibliography of me…" and "I grieve that we never met somewhere on the Western Front". 27th July 1966, "I have been looking through Yeats's poems and though they are often touched with beauty, do not at the moment see where the greatness is". On 8 Aug. 1966, referring to a request from The Times for a piece from him on the occasion of SS's 80th birthday, "I have reflected on it & think the best they can do…is to get an ordinary essay (in C. Lamb's way) from Dennis." 4 Sept. 1966, sending greetings, "My eternal blessings on you…", also "D. Silk must play a single-wicket match v. J. Snow soon on the Heytesbury ground, or else you & I will challenge them both." Also included is an ALS from Blunden to Dennis Silk, Hall Mill, 19.1.66, and another from Clare Ross (Blunden's daughter), 7th September 1962, regarding the purchase of the house in Long Melford. With Selected Letters of Siegfried Sassoon and Edmund Blunden, edited by Carol Rothkopf, 3 vols., 2012. He made a brilliant speech…so did I", with note by SS at end; ALS, Midland Bank Limited, 11.ix.62, 2pp., 8vo.,"I am torn in two over Shakespeare's tomb. I should hate anything to be done which Shakespeare mightn't like…"; ALS, Trafalgar House, Downton, Salisbury, 2.v.64, 11/2pp, 8vo., returning a TLS Sassoon has received from the BBC requesting an interview to hear his views on the First World War, "The right place for it is where the monkey put the nuts", and referring to Osbert Lancaster who has said "at some literary luncheon that he was tired of Shakespeare controversies & didn't really care if Dr. Rowse was or was not the Dark Lady of the Sonnets". SS has written "Rats - with knobs on!" on the BBC letter. With envelope re-addressed to Dennis Silk. Sassoon makes a reference to the same BBC letter on p. 84 of Poet's Pilgrimage, 1973, a copy of which is included in the lot, along with various correspondence concerning Dennis Silk's review of the same, including 2 ALsS from Dame Felicitas Corrigan, who assembled and published the work at Stanbrook Abbey.

The correspondence between Hector Buck and Edmund Blunden was published in More Than a Brother, 1917-67, 1996. This volume was later given to Dennis Silk by a mutual friend. John Hicks, architect. A group of plans and drawings for the new Parish Church of Admiston (now Athelhampton), Dorset, comprising 22 drawings on linen and 4 on paper, dated between October 13th 1860 to October 21st 1861, some with the architect noted, various sizes, but most 50cm x 60cm, evidence of damp, rolled or folded (26) The writer Thomas Hardy was employed with John Hicks of Dorchester between 1858 and 1862, during the period these plans were developed. Of the church, Pevsner cites Goodhart-Rendel, who describes it as 'a pert little nave and chancel with an ugly bellcote', Dorset, p.83. It is not known whether Hardy worked on the designs this building.
Parr, Queen Catherine. A lock of hair, reputedly recovered from her grave. Queen Catherine Parr (153-1548) married Sir Thomas Seymour, 1st Baron Seymour of Sudeley in May 1547, and died there in September 1548 following the birth of a daughter. Her grave was found in May 1782, and the coffin opened, when the body was apparently in remarkable condition. The following summer the grave was reopened and the body was reported to have deteriorated considerably. In the 1860s the chapel at Sudeley was rebuilt by Sir Goerge Gilbert Scott, who erected a canopied tomb for the Queen with a recumbent figure by John Birnie Philip.
Young, William Weston. British Birds, An album of 41 fine watercolour drawings of birds, each 163mm x 257mm approx.., mounted in frame, most captioned in pencil on mount, lacking free-endpapers, nineteenth century calf, the upper cover blocked in gilt 'William Weston Young. British Birds. Neath 1804', expertly rebacked by Bayntun of Bath, c.1940, 4to A RARE SERIES OF ORNITHOLOGICAL WATERCOLOURS FROM AN ARTIST WHO WORKED AT THE CAMBRIAN POTTERY. William Weston Young was born in Bristol on 20 April 1776 into a devout Quaker family, the third son of Edward Young, a Bristolian merchant and Sarah (Sally) Young (née Weston). William led a diverse and entreprenuerial life, but an early bankruptcy forced him into paid employment. On 23 January 1803, Young and his wife Elizabeth moved to new lodgings in Swansea, Glamorganshire. Here he gained employment under fellow Quaker, Lewis Weston Dillwyn, as a 'draftsman' at Dillwyn's Cambrian Pottery, where he remained until August 1806 on a salary of £75 per annum. The watercolours in the present lot would seem to date from this period. Dillwyn and Young, both in their mid-twenties, struck up a close friendship due to their common interest in natural history. Many of Young's painted wares feature accurately depicted flora and fauna as well as the taxonomic names of the illustrated species. Collections of this pottery can be seen at the V&A Museum, South Kensington, The National Museum of Wales, Cardiff and at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea. In 1814, and now recovered from his debts, Young became the major investor in the Nantgarw Pottery established by William Billingsley and Samuel Walker. When the pair left the struggling business in 1820, Young assumed full control, and managed the debts through careful marketing and sale of remaining stock. Young's experience of firing ceramics, together with his familiarity with the region as a local surveyor and his amateur interests in geology enabled him to conceive of a heat-proof, blast-furnace brick, using silica found in large deposits at the head of the Neath Valley. His profit share from the Dinas Firebrick Works was ultimately a very modest pension, and William Weston Young died in relative poverty in Lower Mitton, Kidderminster on 5 March 1847. PROVENANCE: Loosely inserted are three ALS and a carbon typed copy from the bookseller J. Kyrle Fletcher to the purchaser F. E. Andrews, relating the discovery of the album. The first, dated 13 February 1935 notes, 'Mr William Weston Young made the drawing for Mr Dillwyn's valuable work on British Confervae and a series of drawings of British Birds now in the possession of Mr Yarrell'. The correspondence relates that the bookseller traced the descendants of Yarrell and acquired the volume, which was sold to Andrews in 1941, thence offered here by descent.
Distinguished Flying Medal awarded to 1358025 Sgt. Frank Clark RAF, Air Gunner of Stirling aircraft for 15 Squadron. The recommendation from Air2/8944 is: "Sergeant Clark is a rear gunner of Stirling aircraft and acquitted himself with considerable courage and ability both as a gunner and, when the duty devolved on him, as fighter controller. He has shot down one enemy aircraft and probably destroyed a second. On at least two sorties, the directions given to the aircraft's Captain by Sergeant Clark resulted in such effective defensive tactics that the Stirling came safely to base from very hazardous combats. Sergeant Clark has now completed 22 operational sorties and has shown himself, both on the ground and in the air, a most keen and reliable gunner. He is strongly recommended for the non-immediate award of the DFM". No. 15 Sqn, 144 flying hours. He fired back and informed Captain, who dived our aircraft, when E/A identified as M.E.110 appeared dead astern and level about 500 yards. Defensive tactics, diving turn to starboard, when E/A appeared on port quarter. Enemy fighter was firing cannon and machine guns and our aircraft was damaged. Our rear-gunner maintained a long burst as E/A broke away, diving to port. The enemy fighter’s port engine caught fire and the Engineer from Astrodome confirmed it as last seen diving to earth in flames.CLAIMED AS “DESTROYED”2nd attack. Meanwhile a second M.E.110 night fighter, first seen 500 yards away, came in from below and passed to starboard at 220 yards. Defensive tactics; Corkscrew. The Mid-upper gunner (Sgt. Warren) engaged this aircraft and continued firing until the E/A passed behind main plane. Early in the attack two cannon shells pierced the Perspex of the mid-upper turret scattering Perspex over the gunner and cutting him. The ring sight was broken and the gunner seriously wounded with a lacerated cut over the right eye which injured an artery and bled profusely, another cut in the neck, whilst a piece of shrapnel knocked out a tooth and lodged in his gum. Nevertheless Sgt Warren continued firing and did not report his injuries until the combat was over. He then asked for someone to come into the turret as he could not see for blood from his head injury. Although Sgt Warren did not see the results of his attack the Engineer in the Astrodome saw his tracer strike the E/A and the E/A did not attack again/THIS M.E.110 IS CLAIMED AS “DAMAGED”The Air Bomber rendered first-aid to the wounded gunner who lay on the bed, and on landing, walked out of the aircraft before collapsing. He was later given a blood transfusion.During the combat the pilot (F/Sgt McMonagle) carried out defensive tactics with control from the Engineer, the rear-gunner and the Mid-upper gunner. He was doing diving turns into the attack and “corkscrew”, and at the end of the combat had lost 3000 to 4000 feet.Almost at the same time as the attack by the E/A accurate flak engaged and hit our aircraft, but there were no S/L. During this attack the rear turret was rendered partly U/S, the inter-com from the rear turret was rendered useless, and there were strikes on the fuselage. Having been damaged the bombs, 1980 x 4lb incendiary were jettisoned on or near to the target, and the Stirling turned for Base. The containers had presumably been hit by flak or fighters, as they were seen to be burning as they fell.At 19:40 hours our aircraft was flying on a westerly course weaving at 4000 feet some 20 miles NE of Lingen when it had another encounter – an M.E.110 coming in from the port quarter and slightly below. Our aircraft dived and turned to port, when the E/A appeared above firing down on our aircraft. The rear-gunner, although his turret was damaged, managed to get in one long and a short burst and the E/A was also engaged by the W/Op (Sgt Noonan) who was in the mid-upper turret. Sgt Noonan had no ring sight, but aimed with his tracer, getting in several long bursts, hitting the E/A as did the rear gunner. From the three attacks and the flak our aircraft had four large holes in the fuselage, a cannon shell in the starboard wing and another in the port aileron. The rear turret was hit and rendered partially U/S, the inter-com from the rear turret was cut, two cannon shells went through the mid-upper turret Perspex and the Engineer’s instrument panel was broken and falling forward blocked the door to the forward section of the fuselage. The E/A was firing m/g and cannon shells and as the air bomber was going down the fuselage to the rear turret there was phosphorus in the fuselage. The pilot brought the aircraft back and landed safely at COLTISHALL.Claims: One M.E.110 “destroyed”Two M.E.110s “damaged”Our casualties: Mid-upper gunner (Sgt Warren) seriously woundedAmmunition Expended: Mid-upper gunner - 10000 roundsRear Gunner - 15000 roundsGunners: Rear…Sgt Clark Pershore and Basingbourne O.T.U. WW2 Luftwaffe aces signed Adler Tag Cover Oberleutnant Gerhard Krems KC, Major Erich Rudorffer KC. Major Erich Rudorffer Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords (born 1 November 1917) is a German former Luftwaffe fighter ace, one of a handful who served with the Luftwaffe through the whole of World War II. He is 7th most successful fighter pilot in the history of air warfare, and currently both the oldest jet fighter ace, and the most successful ace still living. Rudorffer claimed a total of 222 victories, fighting in all the major German theatres of war, including the European and Mediterranean Theatre of Operations During the war he flew more than 1000 combat missions, was engaged in aerial combat over 300 times, was shot down by flak and enemy fighters 16 times and had to take to his parachute 9 times. His 222 aerial victories include 58 heavily armoured Il-2 Sturmovik ground attack aircraft. He was also responsible for sinking a British submarine. Rudorffer got his first victory over a Curtiss Hawk 75, on 14 May 1940. He scored eight more times before the capitulation of France. He flew throughout the Battle of Britain, and legend has him being pursued down Croydon High Street below rooftop level by a Hurricane. He achieved his nineteenth victory on 1 May 1941; he was then awarded the Ritterkreuz and appointed Staffelkapitän of 6./JG 2 the following month. By the end of December 1941 he had claimed 40 kills. In July 1943 Hauptmann Rudorffer was appointed to command II./JG 54 on the Eastern Front. He claimed his first victory here on 7 August. Due to the experience gained by fighting the RAF he achieved incredible success. During his first sortie on 24 August 1943, 5 Soviet aircraft were downed in 4 minutes. On 11th October 1943 Erich Rudorffer wrote history when during 17 minutes he claimed 13 kills. He earned his nickname Fighter of Libau on 28 October 1944 near the Latvian city of Libau. While preparing to land he spotted a Soviet task force of about 60 close air support aircraft on its way to attack Libau airfields. He broke off the landing and engaged the enemy without any backup. He drove off the attackers, shooting down nine enemy aircraft within 10 minutes. n the winter of 1944, Major Rudorffer was trained on the Messerschmitt Me 262 Jet fighter. In February 1945 he was recalled to command I./ JG 7. Between December 1944 and beginning of April 1945 the I./JG 7 operated from the then newly-built Luftwaffe Airbase in Kaltenkirchen north of Hamburg. So he seems to have been Group Commander more or less for the one month of March 1945. Rudorffer claimed 12 victories with the Me 262, to bring his total to 222. His tally included 136 on the Eastern Front, 26 in North Africa and 60 on the Western Front including 10 heavy bombers. SHANNON DSO* DFC* RAAF (Matted signature), Flight Lieutenant GEORGE A. CHALMERS DFC DFM. Colour print 37x24 signed by Robert Taylor, George Johnson, Ray Grayston, Grant Macdonald Les Munro, Fred Sutherland, Ken Lucas and Ken Macdonald. Pilots Shannon and Maudsley tried time and again to position their laden bombers correctly before managing to release their weapons - but the dam still held. Now success depended solely on Les Knight carrying the last bomb! With time and fuel now a concern, Knight's first effort to position, like Shannon and Maudsley before him, failed, but his second run favoured the brave. Les Knight released his bomb with absolute precision, striking the wall at precisely the crucial point. With a tremendous explosion the Eder Dam collapsed before their eyes. Robert Taylor's sensational new painting vividly shows the dramatic moment of impact. In the cockpit Knight and flight engineer Ray Grayston fight the controls to clear the dam, combining their physical strength to haul the lumbering Avro Lancaster up and over the dam and to clear the high ground that lies ahead. Below and behind them, the second of Germany's mighty western dams lies finally breached. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Rolling Stones Brian Jones, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts signed back of 1965 Concert Ticket, some signs of age. Scarce and highly collectable piece of music memorabilia.Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones (28 February 1942 – 3 July 1969) was an English musician and composer, best known as the founder and original leader of the Rolling Stones.Initially a slide guitarist, Jones went on to play a wide variety of instruments on Rolling Stones recordings and in concerts, from lead and rhythm guitar and sitar to various keyboard and wind instruments. After he founded the Rolling Stones as a British blues outfit in 1962, and gave the band its name, Jones's fellow band members Keith Richards and Mick Jagger began to take over the band's musical direction, especially after they became a successful songwriting team. Jones and fellow guitarist Richards also developed a unique style of guitar play that Richards refers to as the "ancient art of weaving" in which both players would play rhythm and lead parts together. Richards continued the style with later guitarists, and the sound became a Rolling Stones trademark. Jones, however, did not get along with the band's manager, Andrew Loog Oldham, who pushed the band into a musical direction at odds with Jones's blues background. When Jones developed alcohol and drug problems, his performance in the studio became increasingly unreliable, leading to a diminished role within the band he had founded. In June 1969, the Rolling Stones dismissed Jones; guitarist Mick Taylor took his place in the group. At 27 years of age, Jones died less than a month later, drowning in the swimming pool at his home. Jones’s death was referenced in songs by many other pop-bands, and was the subject of poems by Pete Townshend and Jim Morrison. Referring to Jones, the Rolling Stones' Bill Wyman lamented the waste of a great innovator. In 1989, the Rolling Stones, including Jones, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.William George Wyman (né Perks; born 24 October 1936) is an English musician, record producer, songwriter and singer. He was the bassist for the English rock and roll band the Rolling Stones from 1962 until 1993. Since 1997 he has recorded and toured with his own band, Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings. He has worked producing records and films, and has scored music for films and television. Wyman has kept a journal since he was a child during World War II. He has published seven books. Wyman is also a photographer, and his works have been displayed in galleries around the world. He became an amateur archaeologist and enjoys metal detecting. He designed and marketed a patented "Bill Wyman signature metal detector", which he has used to find relics in the English countryside dating back to the era of the Roman Empire.Charles Robert Watts (2 June 1941 – 24 August 2021) was an English musician who achieved international fame as the drummer of the Rolling Stones from 1963 until his death in 2021. Originally trained as a graphic artist, Watts developed an interest in jazz at a young age and joined the band Blues Incorporated. He also started playing drums in London's rhythm and blues clubs, where he met future bandmates Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones. In January 1963, he left Blues Incorporated and joined the Rolling Stones as drummer, while doubling as designer of their record sleeves and tour stages. Watts's first public appearance as a permanent member was in February 1963, and he remained with the group for 58 years. Nicknamed "The Wembley Whammer" by Jagger, Watts cited jazz as a major influence on his drumming style. At the time of Watts's death, Watts, Jagger and Richards were the only members of the band to have performed on every one of the band's studio albums. Aside from his career with the Rolling Stones, Watts toured with his own group, the Charlie Watts Quintet, and appeared in London at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club with the Charlie Watts Tentet. In 1989, Watts was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004, he was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame with the Rolling Stones. He is often regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all time. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. We combine postage on multiple winning lots and can ship worldwide. Errol Flynn signed Christmas Greeting from Fison Airwork inscribed Thanks Phil great ride Errol Flynn. Philip Hale, lived and worked from the mid-50s to the mid-60s in Jamaica as a helicopter crop spraying pilot. He was based in Charlotte Town, Prince Edward Island. At Christmas he would dress up as Santa and deliver presents by helicopter to families not easy to reach, and the children especially loved that. Philip had joined the Royal Airforce just before the war, and after getting his 'wings' was sent to Canada to train other pilots. After the war, he trained as a helicopter pilot and travelled the world crop spraying, eventually ending up in Jamaica on a long-term contract spraying bananas. Sometime in mid-1959 he was approached by Errol Flynn who asked him to fly himself and his young girlfriend up into the mountains to his retreat, as he was unable to accomplish the journey any other way because of ill health. Philip stayed overnight before flying back and later received this card thanking him. However, he never received payment because Errol Flynn died in October of that same year. Philip eventually gave up crop spraying but continued to fly helicopters, both as a personal pilot to one or two prominent people, and also as a 'taxi' out of Kidlington airport, transporting stars of stage and film to their various venues. On 30th January 1965, Philip was commissioned to fly his helicopter following the train carrying Winston Churchill's body from Waterloo to Bladon, so a photographer from Paris Match could take photographs.
