1932 Rolls Royce 20/25 Sedanca de Ville, Barkers Coachwork with divisionReg No. GW6158Chassis No. GBT31 Engine No. J3ZDark Blue body, Black Wings and Leathercloth Roof, interior Blue Leather front and Grey cloth rear.Odometer 00984The Rolls Royce 20/25 model superseded their 20hp car in 1929 following a need to increase performance. As a result the engine was enlarged to 3669cc and depending upon coachwork carried a claimed top speed of 75mph was possible. This particular car was ordered through London agents Paddon Bros. by its first owner who resided at Grosvenor House in Park Lane W1, with instructions to have coachwork commissioned by Barker & Co Ltd to the design drawing GE10396, namely this Sedanca de Ville with division. The chassis is of the “long” type, this being more suitable for the formal coachwork applied.Chassis GBT31 was despatched to Barker’s on the 6/2/1932 and the completed vehicle delivered on the 22/3/1932. The factory build records and sales details are on file for the first two owners, the second owner taking possession in July 1934 and there are three further owners recorded between 1936 and 1945.Unfortunately, the next document shows that the late deceased owner purchased GBT31 on the 6/4/1977, little other paperwork has been found other than correspondence for a full radiator rebuild by Serck Marston in 1990. The deceased family confirm that this was a well loved and maintained car and certainly performed well upon our test. The last MOT test was March 2011.Sold with V5.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTIONCondition report: No toolkit or spares present.Copies of chassis card, bodycard from new, receipts and instruction booklet have been photographed.
1949 Land Rover Series One.Registration Number TAS 185,Chassis number R8666588,Engine number 866633, Odometer 37680.This Series 1, 80" left the factory in June 1949. It is in exceptional and original condition throughout with factory original gaps and no major flaws visible. No filler is evident and the panels are remarkable for a Land Rover of this age. Inner wings, engine compartment etc., are all in good order and the rear floor is straight suggesting the vehicle had only ever had light use in its 72 years.Lights are of the correct original early Lucas type and in good order. Vintage Cibie dipping spotlights were fitted at a later date. The wire hinged door tops are in exceptional condition as are the hood and framework. Lightly used Avon Traction tyres fitted. It is extremely rare to find original seats in an early Series 1. This example retains the now obsolete, original pattern vinyl with Dunlopillo foam bases. The instruments are correct and in excellent original order. The dash retains early features such as the illuminated "oil" light, red tipped 20/20 ammeter and correct and rare panel light switch. Steering wheel, bakelite horn push and dip switch assembly are complete, original and very well presented. A working Smiths heater and windscreen demister vents are non original but sympathetically fitted. A correct early single wiper is fitted. The Land Rover is also highly desirable in that it retains its original "matching numbers" engine and running gear. The 1595cc engine runs beautifully suggesting that the low recorded mileage of 37680 is pretty much correct. Our vendor is the fourth owner and has owned the vehicle for nine years. Having researched the history of this Series 1 with the two previous owners, the original owner who had it for 26 years in Sussex did an estimated 32000 miles. The second owner, an enthusiast, resprayed the Land Rover probably around 1978. That owner, lived for many years on the Isle of Mull and used the vehicle rarely on an Isle where big road trips don't happen! The only existing MOT shows mileage at 36990 on 17.12.2003. Usage with this second owner plus the third owner in Suffolk and the vendor are estimated at only 5000-6000 miles. The last three owners ensured the vehicle was stored under cover. Our opinion is that the current mileage is likely to be correct underlining the uniqueness of this Series 1.The chassis number R8666588 places this as one of the first ever deep bronze green Land Rovers and the lights behind the grille and ring-pull gearbox highlight this as an early vehicle.IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE SALE OF CARS & MOTORCYCLES IN THIS AUCTIONCondition report:Bulkhead in good condition with no apparent repairs.Chassis good.Has been re-sprayed at some point.

A 1937 Morris 8 series 1 Motor Car Registration No. COY 216 first registered on the 19th March 1937. Chassis No. S1/E 136088, a reconditioned engine Serial No. B74738 was apparently fitted in 1955, when she was eighteen. She is very attractively finished in blue and black and these vehicles had a surprisingly economical 4 cylinder side-valve petrol engine of about 918 cc capacity, although the documents curiously refer to a cubic capacity of 885 cc. Write-ups refer to economy in the region of 44 M.P.G. This series 1 car with the attractive honeycomb grill is in lovely condition physically and mechanically having been the subject of comprehensive restoration work with many new parts and she runs like a watch having excellent oil pressure and starting on the button whether hot or cold. She has a new S.U. carburettor and fuel pump as well as new tyres all round including the spare. She is classified as an Historic Vehicle, as such requiring to be road taxed but this is free of charge and she is not subject to the requirement of M.O.T. testing. Insurance for historic vehicles is available from specialist insurance companies at very reasonable premiums. As well as the V5C(W) registration document, there are three old brown and one green log-books present detailing ownerships and regular road taxing (starting at 5 Guineas!). The first owner was a Percy Newman Hyde of Purley, Surrey, then on the 18 June, 1945 she was registered to Nellie Winifred Wotton of South Croydon, going back into the name of the original owner a week later on the 23 June,1945. He continued to own and use the car it being taxed variously at Purley, Wallington, Surrey and Croydon. From the 6 September, 1962 the owner was a Richard Graham Byers of Wallington. On 20 May, 1963 the owner registered is a David Nigel House of Beddington, Croydon, then from 7 September,1964?, a Patrick Robin Jay of Paddock Wood, Kent. On 6 July, 1970 ownership passed to a Terence Alan Collins of High Halden, Ashford, Kent, then on 9 August, 1971 to a Walter Wayne Harrison of Maidstone Kent who moved to Aspley Guise, Bletchley, Bucks. From 24 April, 1972 she was in the ownership of a David Roy Ellis of Woburn Wild Animal Kingdom, Bedfordshire. On 22 January, 1973 she became registered to an Alan John Stafford of Renaold, Bedfordshire who moved to Brickhill, Bedfordshire. A gap in the ownership details then exists, the next recorded owner being a Mrs. Clare Edwards of Ludlow who acquired the car on the 17 September, 2010 the current Abergavenny based owner acquiring the car on the 12 December, 2010. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time with the car but now wishes to pursue other interests. We were very much looking forward to driving the car to our sale-rooms but due to being sorn'd, we resorted to trailering her but she behaved faultlessly during our photo session and whilst moving her in and out of covered storage at the sale-rooms. All in all an economical motor car with four-wheel braking eager to attend rallies and road runs now that such may commence once more. Included with her are: An "Operation Manual for the Morris Eight Series 1" (1936), a 1960 hard-bound volume "Car Maintenance Series Morris Cars (models from 1934)", a Pitman's Motorist's Library - "The Book of the Morris Eight and The Morris Minor", an invaluable book to the owner "The Morris Eight (Series E) Workshop Manual", and a card-back volume entitled "Fifty Years of Motoring", 1960, a fascinating book with numerous illustrations of motor cars through the years. Please also look out for the following lots including many Morris Eight Spares, as well as the owner's workshop tools. ****N.B. The Buyer's Premium on this Lot will be 10% + VAT (Total 12%). If purchased via the saleroom.com an additional 5% + VAT will be added 18% TOTAL.****

POLISHED COCO DE MER SEED (Lodoicea maldivica), of typical form, 24cms high Provenance: private collection, consigned via our Carmarthen office Auctioneer's note: The coco de mer is a palm found only in the islands of Praslin and Curieuse in the Seychelles. The fruit requires around seven years to mature and a further two years to germinate. Originally believed to have been a sea-bean or drift seed (a seed designed to be dispersed by the sea) it is now known that the nut is too heavy to float, and that only rotten nuts can be found on the sea surface: this explains why the trees are limited in range to just two islands. Until the true source of the nut was discovered in 1768, many believed that it grew on a mythical tree at the bottom of the sea. In the 16th century, the European aristocracy decorated their coco de mer seeds with precious jewels, and treasured them in "cabinets of curiosities". The sailors who first saw the nut floating in the sea imagined that they resembled a woman's buttocks, leading to the plant's archaic botanical name, "Lodoicea callipyge"; "callipyge" meaning "beautiful rump" in Greek. Condition Report: cut and shut.
Manner of Thomas Faed, Who is The Tallest, oil, 29 x 17cm29 x 17cmCondition report: Framed and glazed and has not been removed recently, so is not easy to inspect, but appears to be complete and signed with initials faintly. Well painted in my opinion. There is some obvious crazing within the paint, visible mostly on the dress and legs. The frame looks old, but is quite damaged around most edges. Was consigned at the saleroom with other lots, so we do not have any provenance.
