SOE Lysander Pilot 8x10 Inch Photo Signed By Len Ratcliff DSO DFC Who Joined The RAVR In Early 1939 To Train As A Pilot. In 1941 He Completed A Full Tour Of 30 Operations In Bomber Command With 49 Squadron. After A Rest Period He Was Posted To 161 Special Duties Sqn As Flight Commander Flying Agents And Supplies In And Out Of France, Belgium, Holland, Norway And Denmark. He Then Spent A Period In Charge Of A.I.2.C At The Very Centre Of Clandestine Activities In The Whole Of Occupied Europe. He Returned To 161 Squadron In 1943 As Flight Commander And Later Squadron Commander. Operating From RAF Tempsford In Bedfordshire And Under Cover Of Darkness, He Took Part In More Than 70 Operations Behind Enemy Lines. He Would Often Pilot Bombers Deep Into Germany, Parachuting In Saboteurs. On Other Occasions, He Would Fly Single-Seat Aircraft Into France, Navigating By Moonlight To Meet Members Of The French Resistance. The Risks Were Huge - His Squadron Was Wiped Out Three Times During The War, 200 People Lost Or Injured Out Of A Staff Of 600. A Rare Signature. Good condition. A pair of early 20th Century fruitwood armchairs of Louis XV style with outswept arms and cabriole legs (Provenance: ex Bibury Court previously purchased from Syrie Maugham, society decorator and wife of Somerset Maugham, who was born in 1879. She opened a shop on Baker Street in 1922 and worked in Palm Beach, California, before opening further shops in New York and Chicago.) CONDITION REPORTS Both chairs upholstery is slightly worn. TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 1960-61 Superb item, a hard backed exercise book containing on each page a 6" x 4" photograph (glossy) of the eleven Spurs players who made up their usual Double -Winning team whilst opposite the photograph is the autograph of the relevant player which normally says "Best wishes " followed by the signature of the relevant player. The remainder of the book has full details of Spurs 1960-61 season, results , scorers, attendances, appearances etc plus one other signature (possibly Hollowbread). Photographs and signatures are Bill Brown, Peter Baker, Ron Henry, Danny Blanchflower, Maurice Norman, Dave Mackay, Terry Dyson, Les Allen, Bobby Smith, John White and Cliff Jones. Good
USA SOCCER Black and white photograph mounted on card of an American team 1913. The photograph shows 11 players in kit and seven others in civilian clothes.. The team has won a large trophy (shown in the photograph) with the engraving on the trophy reading "Metropolitan and District" and a player is holding a ball which has "F.A.C 1912-13" painted on it. The reverse side of the photograph has the name and address of the photographer written on it who seems to have been located in Brooklyn, New York. The photograph measures 8" x 6" and the card on which it is mounted measures 12" x 10". Generally good

Final item is a white fold over card containing the signatures of 17 members of the Ireland squad who faced the All-Blacks 15/11/97 in Dublin including Wood, Elwood, Popplewell, Johns, Dawson, Hickie etc. Good
MARK JONES-1958 A sad item, the programme for the memorial service for Mark Jones held at Wombwell Parish Church, 14/2/58. Mark Jones was sadly one of the eight players who lost their lives in the Munich Air Disaster, 6th February 1958. He was a Yorkshire and England schoolboy International and he made over 100 appearances for United from 1950 onwards. This four page programme for the service does have minor stains but is otherwise in good condition. Good

The items are: a card granting Jim Sullivan the privileges of an Honorary Member of the Queensland Commercial Travellers Club dated 7th July 1924, a Dinner Menu dated June 25th 1924 hosted by Orange Rugby League in honour of the England Tourists and a 16 page booklet containing full reports of the Three Test Matches Australia v England reprinted from the Sydney Referee Australia's Best Sporting Paper (grubby in parts). FA TELEGRAM 1942 Telegram sent by the Football Association to Frank Soo confirming that a room had been reserved for him at the Angel Hotel in Cardiff and that shorts and stockings would be provided for him. Dated May 7th 1942 . Soo , who received the telegram at his home in Stoke, played left back in the English team which lost 1-0 to Wales in Cardiff. Good

1957 FA CUP FINAL - MAN UTD Magnificent signed Manchester United official menu for the post match Celebration Dinner and Dance at the Savoy, London, 4/5/57. United lost the Cup Final to Aston Villa after having their goalkeeper carried off after a collision with Peter McParland , who ironically scored the Villa goals in their 2-1 victory. The menu is fully signed on the back cover by 23 players, officials and ex players and signatures include Duncan Edwards, Pegg, Scanlon, Whitefoot, Viollet, Blanchflower, Foulkes, Winterbottom, Pearson (Stan), Les Olive, Joe Armstrong (Scout), Curry (trainer), Inglis, Whelan etc. Red and white cord attached to spine. BERT TRAUTMANN Beautifully designed postcard showing Bert Trautmann (Manchester City goalkeeper who broke his neck in the 1956 Cup Final - and finished the game !!!). The card shows Bert making a save in the Cup Final and was produced by him as a thank you to his many fans. The words "In grateful appreciation of your very kind gesture" are printed at the side of his picture and is signed in ink "Sincerely Bert Trautmann". Good

1945-FORCES REPRESENTATIVE Exceedingly rare match-card programme, Kandy Amateur League United Services XI v British Tourists, 4/10/45 at Kandy. The team lists are signed by the players including McShane (Blackburn), Delaney (Arsenal), Curtis (Arsenal) and many other members of the British Professionals Touring Party including Walker (Hearts), Corbett (Celtic), Milne (Celtic). The Kandy side consisted of British Servicemen and they have also signed the match card which belonged to one of their players. There is some paper erosion to the match card around the edges but the line-ups are not affected. Signed by 29 players in ink. The item belonged to Hartburn who played for Kandy and after the War he played for QPR, Millwall, Watford and Orient. Probably one of the scarcest Wartime representative programmes. Fair
BOXING A unique collection relating to boxing in the Nottingham Midland Area circa 1948-1952. The lot comprises a large ledger which was the minute book for the meetings of the North Midlands Council of the British Boxing Board of Control from 18/11/48 to 9/6/50. An invaluable insight into boxing during that period with many problems revolving around money and not trying etc. A promoter called Billy Shinfield features regularly and he had many reasons for not paying boxers on his bills including the cost of black market petrol etc. A second item in the Lot is a scrapbook of cuttings circa 1952, many feature Reg King who was a leading promoter at Nottingham Ice Rink who also fell foul of dealing in the black market including handling black market sugar and watches. Loose cuttings are included and the Lot is full of interest to those who follow boxing from that era. Generally good
