Single A4 page from notebook containing draft, and near complete lyrics for ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ on one side and ‘A Kind of Magic’ on the reverse. Both tracks are from the 1986 LP ‘A Kind of Magic’ and were featured in the classic film ‘Highlander’. Both tracks were released as singles during 1986 and achieved worldwide success. The tracks are considered by Queen fans worldwide as two of their best tracks. These lyrics were handwritten by Freddie when recording the tracks during late 1985 and January 1986. There are slight differences in the wording of some lyrics, as the tracks were taking shape during the recording process. The writing is in black ink and on an A4 page torn from a notepad. The set of lyrics have been on display in Queen Studio Experience museum since it opened in 2013. Incredibly, nobody has ever seen the lyrics for ‘A Kind of Magic’ on the reverse side of ‘Who Wants To Live Forever’. This is the first time they are on public display. The side with 'A Kind of Magic' features both Freddie and Roger Taylor's handwriting. 2 lines read "This Man Had a Goal, His Pain Was One Soul" which appears to be an early incarnation of "One Vision". The side with 'Who Wants to Live Forever' are all in Freddie's handwriting.‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ was written by Brian May and both Brian and Freddie sing parts on the various releases. Freddie sang the entire version that featured in ‘Highlander’, and his vocals on this track are considered some of the best he ever recorded.‘A Kind of Magic’ was written by Roger Taylor, but was a track that according to Roger, “Freddie really believed in this song and reworked it as a single”. Guitarist, Brian May also recalled, "Mercury ‘polished’ the lyrics, added the bassline, and re-arranged the structure, although the end result was still solely credited to Taylor. The track, as originally conceived by Roger, was lugubrious and heavy and Freddie totally lightened it up to make it a commercially accessible thing, adding all the little riffs.” When interviewed about the track David Richards recalled "It was pretty hard to keep up with all Freddie’s ideas. I remember one day we were working on ‘A Kind of Magic’ and he said, ‘I want to hear a herd of wildebeests swinging from left to right.’ I said, ‘Oh yeah, fine, how am I going to do this?’ I spent another two days thinking about it, realizing he wanted some kind of stereo effect. Eventually, we came up with these magic effects that went swinging round.”Having the opportunity to purchase one such set of lyrics very rarely happens. To have two incredible sets of lyrics, back to back, on the same page is unprecedented. The recent Freddie Mercury auction highlighted the demand for lyrics and it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Queen fans and collectors to both see and bid on this incredible set.Provenance: Freddie's handwritten lyrics have been consigned by the late producer's estate and the Queen Studio Experience museum in Montreux, Switzerland where they were on display.Co-producer for Queen’s later masterpieces, David Richards ensured every track had the magic Mercury envisioned. Best known for his work with Queen and David Bowie, David Richards co-produced Queen’s final 4 albums ‘A Kind Of Magic’, ‘The Miracle’, ‘Innuendo’ and ‘Made In Heaven’.Richards was instrumental in crafting the sound that defined the band's latter years with hits including ‘’Under Pressure’’, ‘’A Kind Of Magic’’, ‘’Who Wants To Live Forever’’, "Innuendo”, “The Show Must Go On’’ and so many more. His collaboration with Freddie Mercury on the operatic album "Barcelona" with Montserrat Caballé highlighted his versatility and innovative approach to recording and production.Beyond his work with Queen and Bowie, David Richards recorded and produced an array of artists including Iggy Pop, Chris Rea, Duran Duran, the Rolling Stones, Miles Davis, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Chaka Khan, Christine McVie to name a few. From 1975 to 2013, he recorded the Montreux Jazz Festival contributing to the audio archive collection which has since been classified UNESCO World Heritage underscoring the global impact of his work. With significant contributions to some of the most iconic recordings in music history, David Richards helped shape the soundscapes of generations. In 2013 Brian May said , "Our recorded music will carry a testament to your great work forever".Special Notice: No right to reproduce or commercially exploit the copyright or other intellectual property rights is included with the sale of the lot. LINNIE WATT (British, fl. 1880-1907) A street scene at Dinan, with children attempting to hook a basket from a gentleman to the left, Signed with monogram, oil on canvas: 52 x 44cm, in painted frame (62.5 x 54cm over-all).Note: Linnie Watt joined Doulton’s Lambeth studio in 1875 after a fire destroyed Minton’s Art Pottery Studio in London. She specialized in painting Faience plaques featuring idyllic rural scenes. Apparently, she sketched a lot from nature and had the habit of bribing her human subjects to stand still. Unfortunately, they rarely did for more than a minute so she became a very rapid sketcher.Miss Watt's work was shown at the Philadelphia and Paris Exhibitions and she was a regular prize winner at the annual china painting shows organised by Howell and James in London. She was awarded first prize in 1878 and a silver medal the following year. Miss Watt exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy between 1877 and 1901 and was a member of the Society of Lady Artists from 1874. She also illustrated books, for example Out of Town by F. E. Weatherly, 1884.John Sparkes, the principal of the Lambeth School of Art, spoke very highly of her: “She has a most distinguished gift for conveying the impression of a picturesque scene with rustic figures, in excellent color, and with artistic breadth of effect, quite admirable in its truth. Her works will speak for themselves to every artist who sees them.”

67.5cm slightly curved broad blade etched to one side with three fleur de lis, a laurel spray and Flibustiers Du Cap within a scroll panel, the other side decorated with a sailing ship within a laurel wreath, copper gilt half basket hilt incorporating a flaming grenade, lion's mask pommel, wire bound leather covered wooden grip, contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard. Discovered and purchased on the Isle of Man this area was much frequented by French Privateers such as Captain Francois Thurot who was fought by Captain John Elliot in 1760. While the battle between Thurot and Elliot may be too early for this sword it may have come via the ill fated exploits of Richard Qualtrough, the captain of the Privateer Tyger or Tiger, which date from the late 1770's. However it arrived on the Isle of Man it is one of the few truly identifiable French Privateer swords.

AUTOGRAPHS - HUGHES, EDWARD JAMES 'TED' (ENGLISH, 1930-1998), POET, TRANSLATOR & CHILDREN'S WRITER An autograph letter signed, on a Court Green, North Tawton headed letter card, dated 9 January 1994, 'Well, your invitation is a mighty honour... My first ambitious plan was to write at length about Gallipoli. But my father served there, in the Lancs Fusiliers, and I learned early that for a non-combatant to say anything, about that campaign, that could honourably exist in the same world as those who survived it - or even morso, did not survive it - would need divine help. So I never completed what I began...', signed 'Ted Hughes', two pages (10.5cm x 14.5cm).

JIRI HERMAN (Czech / Bohemian 1892 - 1969) - From Vysocina | 1923 | technique: oil on cardboard | 32 x 40 cm | signature: bottom right | framed under glass | Lot description | Jiri Herman (1892-1969) was one of the Czech landscape painters who were significantly influenced by Antonin Slavicek, who shaped Czech landscape painting at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The work from 1923, which depicts a vast landscape with windswept trees under a dramatic sky, bears traces of Slavick's handwriting in the dynamic rendering of nature and in the painter's interest in atmospheric conditions. Here, Herman works with free brushstrokes and a distinct color range, thus continuing the impressionist technique of Antonin Slavicek. The composition of the work shows an emphasis on the immediate impression of the landscape, which Herman was able to transfer to the canvas with extraordinary liveliness and energy. | condition report*In case of missing photos, please feel free to contact us.

KAREL SLENGER (Czech / Bohemian 1903 - 1981) - Bouquet in a vase | 1944 | technique: oil on canvas | 67 x 52 cm | signature: bottom right | framed | Lot description | Karel Slenger's painting from 1944 is an example of his highly expressive work, which he developed throughout his career. Slenger, a Czech painter who spent part of his life in Paris, was known for his ability to work with different artistic styles and techniques. Slenger was not only an experimenter, but also a painter with deep inner expression. His work often veered between expressionism and primitivism, with an emphasis on rich layers of color that gave his paintings a relief character. Although he was respected in the art world, his work remained less known during his lifetime, and his financial situation was often difficult. The painting from 1944 can be seen as a combination of a traditional still life with expressive elements that are characteristic of Slenger. His ability to portray flowers with a certain harshness and emotional charge is clearly visible in this work. | condition report*In case of missing photos, please feel free to contact us.

ENDRE BARZO (Hungary / Hungarian 1898 - 1953) - A journey under the full moon | 1928 | technique: oil on canvas | 61 x 73 cm | signature: bottom left | framed | Lot description | Endre Barzo attended the Academy of Fine Arts as a student of Istvan Revesz and Agos Benkhard from 1916. After obtaining a certificate as an art teacher, he worked from 1923 at the Model Drawing School with his master Benkhard. In the summer, he taught at the art colony in Miskolc. In 1928, he participated in the founding of the Society of Miskolc Artists, after which he received a Marcello Nemes scholarship for a study stay in Italy. He was a member of KEVE and UME, as well as the Munkacsy Guild. Bibliography: Barzo Endre emlekkistalliga, exhibition catalogue, Nyiregyhaza, Josa Andras Muzeum, 1983. Endre Barzo was an artist who firmly established his roots in Hungarian Expressionism. His works are characterized by bold brush strokes, dynamic use of color and emotionally charged scenes that capture both the landscape and the human experience in its rawness and power. This painting, typical of Barza's work, presents a strongly stylized landscape that bears all the hallmarks of his unique artistic signature. The central motif of the work is a winding road that winds between rocks and hills, while the night sky dominates the upper part of the composition. The use of strong color contrasts - especially deep blues, greens and pale yellows - creates a dramatic effect, while the muted and wrinkled clouds together with the intense moonlight give the scene a sense of supernatural calm and mystery. The two figures in the foreground, captured in motion, give the image a sense of restless wandering or a lonely journey, a theme often present in Expressionist work. In his work, Barzo often worked with the landscape as a metaphor for inner emotional states. Landscapes like this are more than just depictions of nature; they are a projection of human emotions, moods and existential questions. In this case, the image can be read as an expression of the desire for peace and light, symbolized by the moon, but at the same time, the path that leads to this is full of obstacles and twists. This particular painting is a significant example of Barz's masterful handling of color and composition. The movement and rhythm of the image evoke a strong emotional experience that draws the viewer in and evokes a sense of reflection on human existence and the individual's place in the world. | condition report*In case of missing photos, please feel free to contact us.
