Scarce early Victorian blue and white military review jug with printed scenes of Queen Victoria on horseback reviewing her troops entitled 'Victoria Review' 22cm high. According to "Victoria remembered" by John May this jug commemorates a rather unusual disagreement between the young Queen and her mother and then prime minister Lord Melbourne who thought it unseemly for the Queen to ride a horse at her first military review but instead should ride in a carriage. There was even a popular poem published about it 'I will have a horse, I am determined on that, If there is to be a review, No horse, no review, My Lord Melbourne, that's flat, In spite of Mama and you'. The Queen lost the first battle but won the war as she rode the next month at her second review.Good condition, small crack to rim of spout. Please see the extra images on our website

A FAMILLE ROSE 'ZHANG GE'ER' SNUFF BOTTLEDaoguang four-character mark and of the periodOf rounded rectangular form, the shoulders set with lion mask handles, painted on each main side with events in the subjugation of Jihāngīr, one side with a battle scene showing Jihāngīr in what we presume to be his last battle, the other main side with his presentation in the imperial temple.5.3cm (2 1/8in) high.Footnotes:清道光 瓷胎畫粉彩平定張格爾之亂鼻煙壺「道光年製」款The subject relates to the final subjugation of Jihāngīr (also Jahāngīr or Jehangir; Zhang-ge-er in Chinese, as on the banner here). Jihāngīr was leader of a holy war against the Qing occupiers of the land his people had once occupied east of the Pamirs. He had been kept under control in Kokand, on the west side of the mountains, but when the Qing refused to grant special privileges to the Kokandian merchants in Kashgar, he was allowed to escape surveillance. After an abortive expedition in 1820, Jihāngīr marched on Kashgar in 1826, inciting a full-scale Muslim rebellion. The Qing forces reconquered the area in early 1827, but he was captured by Yang Fang (1770 – 1846) and Changling (1758 – 1838) only on 14 February 1828, nearly a year later. The imperial general depicted in combat with Jihāngīron one side of the bottle is either Yang Fang or Changling. We think it is the latter. The military title given on the banner of the mounted figure on the right does not conclusively identify the man, as it is a Ming title (bureaucratic terminology was often used informally by later dynasties in China after the official designations had changed). It is followed by the character yang, but the character is slightly different from the surname Yang; it is the first character in the rank that Changling was given in late 1826 or early 1827 when he had halted Jihāngīr's advance: Yangwei jiangjun, 'Majestic General'. It was Changling who returned to Beijing (Yang Fang went back to Gansu), where his captive was presented in the temple of imperial ancestors before being quartered.(Hummel 1943 is a good source for information on the rebellion and the people involved.)The bottles were probably produced shortly thereafter, and perhaps only for a short period of time, but since we have no idea for how long such imperial crowing would have been appropriate we have left open the possibility that it continued until the end of the reign in various series. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

"Edward Tindall in Civil War Uniform (Grandfather Tindall)". American Civil War - a report of Private Edward Tindall of the Keystone Battery of Philadelphia American Civil War - a report of Private Edward Tindall of the Keystone Battery of Philadelphia Report about the misdoing of Lt. Walsh and Sergeant Brown during the Civil War, five pages written in ink. Tindall recollects that he, like other sons of wealthy families of Philadelphia, was a soldier of the Keystone Battery "during the war of rebellion". The Battery was subordinated to the 196th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers and was not, as had been promised, equipped with "Field Pieces (called cannons)" but with muskets and detached to infantry service. After guarding "Rebel Prisoners at Camp Chase" near Chicago, the regiment was chosen to guard the city of Springfield, hometown of President Abraham Lincoln, as security guard. At that time the highly esteemed "Boys in our company" were made part of the social life by the "upper class of the community of Springfield". Lieutenant Robert Walsh and Sergeant Amos Brown betrayed this confidence of the Springfield community, forgot their good breeding far from home and seduced and impregnated two virgin girls from wealthy families. With it the diary of his later wife Martha R. Bannan from October 1856 to August 1858. More than 180 pages written in ink, dark blue leather binding (binding somewhat loose, back with imperfections). With the verve of a probably 16- or 17-year-old school girl, she describes meticulously accurate and piously her daily life, social and familial events, first romances and much more. Furthermore two studio photographs (Broadbent & Co., Philadelphia, and Edward Morgan, Philadelphia, partly coloured) of Martha R. Bannan, one inscribed on the reverse side "Grandmother Tindall...", as well as two photographs of Edward Tindall in Civil War uniform of the Union (one coloured, Broadbent & Co., Philadelphia, and Rehn & Hurn, Philadelphia), one inscribed on the reverse side "Edward Tindall in Civil War Uniform (Grandfather Tindall)". She is probably Martha Ridgway Bannan who translated "Die Laune des Verliebten" ("The Lover's Caprice") and "Die Fischerin" ("The Fisher Maiden") by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe into English, published in 1899 by John C. Yorston in Philadelphia ("Translated for the First Time and in Original Meters"). Condition: II -

As is often the case with classics of this age, at some time in the past the car was re-shelled using a later 1971 shell. Purchased by our vendor about three years ago who, in the process of updating the V5 in his name fell foul of the Swansea bureaucratic whirlpool, the upshot of which is that its original 1966 registration number has been cancelled, it has been issued with a new DVLA chassis number - DVLASWA3972414203. As such, it will require re-registering and once done will be issued with a ‘Q’ registration. Despite the above, this classic Mini does offer the new purchaser an exciting project or valuable source of spares. The engine was running two years ago although the clutch was stuck and the exhaust has a blow. Although the engine number is associated with a 1960's Cooper S engine, we are unable to verify this is the correct one for the car. Comes with Heritage BMIHT Heritage Certificate, DVLA correspondence, older V5's and MoT certificates. 5,146 miles

Make & Model:Nissan, GSi Date of Reg:H59MJC Colour:Red cc:1998 MoT:2025-09-03 Fuel Type:Petrol Mileage:44314 Transmission:automatic Summary:This very smart Sunburst Red Nissan Primera 2.0 GS saloon is now a very rare modern classic, with the website How Many Left? recording that only two 2.0 GS examples are left on the road. The model was introduced in late 1990 as a replacement for the Bluebird and built in Sunderland; in its day, it was a very well-regarded car with a reputation for fine driving and good handling. The 2.0-litre SR20 engine produces 128bhp.  This example was registered in March 1991, making it an early car. It features electric windows all round, central locking and manual factory sunroof. It is totally original - even down to original dealer numberplates, tax disc holder, keyring and factory stereo (with electric aerial) and is now showing a low 44,314 miles on its odometer, which can be verified from the paperwork. Condition inside and out is very good, especially considering the originality. The MoT is valid until September 2025. The first owner had it for 30 years until his death in 2020; in his ownership, it was carefully looked after and apparently garaged every night. It still has his binoculars and cassettes in the centre armrest cubby hole where he left them (along with newer versions of the sweets he also enjoyed). The V5C shows four recorded keepers overall. The Nissan has been featured on Furious Driving, Lloyd Vehicle Consulting and JJ On Cars on YouTube. It has also been in the Daily Telegraph's Rarest Cars series (and on its stand at Silverstone in 2023). In November 2023 it was displayed at the NEC Classic Motor Show on the Pride of Ownership stand and won the Retro Repmobile Trophy at the 2022 Festival of the Unexceptional. We are told by the vendor, who uses the car regularly (but sparingly) that it runs and drives well, with no known issues. Recent work has included an oil and filter service during the summer, with the tyres and battery also being quite fresh too. All electrical items are functioning as they should. There's an extensive history with the car that includes the current and past V5Cs, service book (with stamps up to 36,493 miles in February 2008, although there is paper evidence of servicing beyond this), owner's handbook, MoT certificates back to 2000, assorted invoices and press articles. There's also a separate dealer workshop manual as well as a Haynes one. The Nissan has all its trophies and awards as well, plus two original keys (with the alarm deactivated).

Make & Model:Ford, Focus RS Date of Reg:KJ53EPN Colour:Blue cc:1988 Fuel Type:Petrol Mileage:5628 Transmission:manual Summary:This excellent condition 2003 Ford Focus, registered in September of that year, has only covered a mere 5630 miles from new (confirmed by the history that accompanies it). During that time, it has had just one owner who has always kept it serviced and garaged and used it purely for enjoyment during decent weather as a second car - it has never even carried passengers. A move to Yorkshire in 2017 meant the RS had to go into secure dry storage, from which it has only just emerged, even coming to ACA on a covered trailer so that the damp autumn weather wouldn't get at it. The vendor describes it as a very reluctant sale. The car has been given a new battery (plus a new battery in its key fob) and as it hasn't been used since 2017, taken to Marshalls Ford, the Ford Main Agent in Kings Lynn for a oil and filter change. At the same time a new MoT was issued. Paperwork with the Focus includes the V5C, invoices covering the car's life and all MoT certificates. There's also a copy of Car magazine from October 2002 featuring the RS, brochures, and the original book pack. The script has what appears to be his name written in pen at the top of the title page leading us to believe this was indeed his original copy of the script at the time of filming throughout 1980. The annotations through the first part of the script also seem, to indicate items that a set / prop designer would need to acquire as part of their job.
