PAUL MCCARTNEY - great set of signatures and memorabilia relating to Paul's stay at the Golden Gates hotel Glasgow in 1967. Paul & Jane Asher along with their dog Martha were on the way to the Isle of Mull when Paul's Aston Martin broke down. Their car was towed to a nearby garage and they booked in to the Golden Gates hotel for the night while it was fixed. On the morning of their departure when the car was fixed the vendor (who worked at the hotel) asked Paul & Jane for their autographs - Paul signed on a piece of hotel letter headed stationery while Jane signed on another piece of notepaper. After they had left somebody from the garage came with a receipt for Paul which the vendor kept as a memento of Paul's visit (as Paul had not left a forwarding address). In addition to this there is a printed photograph of Paul, Jane and Martha outside the hotel in 1967. Includes signed letter of provenance from the vendor.

JOHN LENNON'S FRIDGE FREEZER FROM KENWOOD - incredible and unique item which was originally bought by John Lennon when they lived in their Kenwood home. The Westinghouse in its day was the Rolls Royce of fridges. This one has a freezer compartment at the top with large fridge space below and it still includes the original metal drawers, ice cube trays and even instructions. The vendor bought the fridge direct from his friend Billy Atkins who became the owner of Kenwood in early 1970 after John Lennon sold the property in late 1968. Whilst at the property for a barbecue in 1970 the vendor mentioned that his fridge had packed in and Billy offered him the Westingland - after some bartering the vendor bought it for around £80. He has owned it ever since and it was working up until a few years ago. The fridge was recently shown to Dot Jarlett's son who spent a lot of time at Kenwood in the 60's (Lennon's housekeeper at Kenwood) and instantly he recognised it as the fridge from John's kitchen. Included with this lot are 2 letters of provenance from the vendor and his friend who helped him collect it along with a letter from Dot Jarlett's son confirming that this fridge came from Lennon's kitchen at Kenwood.

N.P. Tinker, "John Grismond", English Language Notes, 34 (1996), pp.30-35. The first (suppressed) edition of the first published collection of poems by katherine philips, "the matchless orinda" The poet and dramatist Katherine Philips (n‚e Fowler, 1632-64), who used the sobriquet "Orinda", was the most respected and most influential English woman writer of the seventeenth century. The founder of a kind of pr‚cieuse Society of Friendship -- including such figures as Sir Edward Dering ( "Silvander"), Lord and Lady Dunganon ("Lucasia" and "Memnon"), Sir John Berkenhead ("Cratander"), and Sir Charles Cotterell ("Poliarchus") -- and who lived for much of her married life in Cardiganshire, she also established one of the best documented centres of literary manuscript production of her time. Although occasional poems by her had appeared in printed broadsides or other publications, as well as her successfully staged translation from Corneille, Pompey, the first collected edition of poems by her did not appear until 1664. Despite recent disputes as to whether or not she had a hand in this, her recorded lamentations insisting that she would not have published such a thing for a thousand pounds and that this edition was wholly unauthorised seem convincing enough. Her friends Cotterell and John Jeffreys prevailed upon the publisher Marriott to suppress the edition, but clearly a number of copies did get into circulation. The printer of the edition, "J.G.", has been identified by Nathan Tinker as John Grismond. (1)

*Constantinople. Anonymous, Vue du Grand Serrail de Constantinople [A View of the Grand Seraglio of Constantinople, circa 1770, grey wash watercolour panorama of Istanbul, old folds, slight dust soiling and staining, laid on later conservation paper, image size 140 x 380 mm A charming mid eighteenth century manuscript view of Istanbul. The view takes in what is now the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul on the European side, with the Hagia Sophia on the right, to what is now the šskdardistrict on the Asian side of the city. To the left, the artist has labelled the Maidens Tower as Tour de Leandres, referring to the legend of Leander, who swam the Hellespont to see his lover Hero every night, which some confused with the Bosphorus. It focuses on the Topkapi Palace, and the element of Ottoman culture of most interest to European observers, the harem, or seraglio. The harem was a source of some fascination, and much speculation. The artist has labelled almost half the palace as Appartamens des femmes en Grand Seigneur, or the womens quarters. The view was probably produced during one of the intermittent conflicts between the Ottoman Empire and European powers over the eighteenth century. After the partnership broke up, each member took the plates that they engraved with them, the majority of which were engraved by Senex, and were re-issued in his English Atlas from 1714. In 1713, Wildey acquired the remainder of Price's stock and began to issue them with his own imprint and in a further ill-fated partnership with Timothy Brandreth. The partnership was not a commercial success and later the same year, Willdey was advertising the remaining stock of the maps at a heavily discounted price. This particular example bears a dedication by Charles Price to Earl John Poulett, who was Lord Steward between 1711-1714. China & Japan. Blaeu (Johannes), Imperii Sinarum nova Descriptio, published J.Covens & C.Mortier, Amsterdam, circa 1710, engraved map with contemporary outline colouring, central fold runs horizontally, 465 x 595 mm A map from Blaeu's Atlas Sinensis, but a later issue by Covens & Mortier. This map covers China, Korea and Japan. Korea is correctly shown as a peninsula and not an island, and China is very accurately depicted -the Great Wall is visible in the north. This is the first European map to show Ezo as an island in Japan. The title cartouche is surrounded by figures in traditional dress. The Atlas Sinensis was the fruit of a unique collaboration between Father Martinus Martini, the Jesuit Superior of Hangchow, and the Amsterdam cartographer, Johannes Blaeu. Father Martino Martini (1614-1661), was a Jesuit missionary who began to compile his own maps based on earlier Chinese sources, including an 1312 manuscript atlas by Chu-Ssu-pˆn. He was taken prisoner by the Dutch in 1654 and sent to Amsterdam. He used the journey to translate Chu-Ssu-pˆns work, with additions and revisions from a 1555 printed atlas by Lo Hongxian. When he arrived, Martini took his work to Johannes Blaeu, and persuaded him to postpone his planned town book of Italy in order to engrave and publish Martinis maps instead. The accompanying text was Martinis personal accountof the decade he had spent travelling in China. The volume of seventeen maps was completed and published in 1655, and marketed as the sixth volume of Blaeu's Atlas Novus. (1)

A 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 cabriolet (993), ***registration number P968 RYU***, chassis number WP0ZZZ992ZVS330680, engine number 63V03536, blue. Porsche's last air cooled model, code named 993, was launched in 1993 and would remain in production until 1998. There were three body styles available, coupé, targa and cabriolet, both in two or four wheel drive and either 3.6 or 3.8 litre engines. This particular Carrera 4 cabriolet has covered only 44,000 miles form new. The Porsche is finished in a very attractive colour combination of metallic blue with a blue mohair electric hood and contrasting grey and blue full leather interior. In the curren t ownership the car has been very well maintained by Porsche Centre Reading and Bristol with receipts on file for over £10,000. The Porsche has an accompanying history file containing receipts (last serviced 22-8-2016), stamped service book, handbooks, Porsche health check, expired MOTs and general paperwork. The vendor has taken the decision to sell the car as he has only used it for a very limited annual mileage and he feels it now needs to go to someone who will use it more regularly.
