Y A FRENCH PARQUETRY AND ORMOLU MOUNTED COMMODE IN LOUIS XV/XVI TRANSITIONAL STYLE, AFTER THE MODEL BY ROGER VANDERCRUSE LACROIX (1728-1799), BY MAISON KRIEGER, PARIS, LATE 19TH CENTURY The veneers including; fruitwood, sycamore, bois satiné, and amaranth, the inside of the top right drawer with the metal label for 'Krieger, Paris' 92cm high, 135cm wide, 58cm deep Provenance: Sotheby's, London, 30th April 2013, Lot 433 (£11,875)After the celebrated model by Roger Vandercruse Lacroix for the Comtesse d'Artois at Versailles. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. some old repairs. There is fading to the colour overall. No obvious breaks or noticeable chips to the marble top. There is some possible use of surface filler to some natural faults in the marble (see images). The marble top appears original. Old splits and chips. There are no noticeable losses to veneer, only very minor chips. Handles, escutcheons and mounts are original and all present. Some relatively minor wear and dirt to the metal mounts. The lock is original. A key is present and operates the lock.The timber of the carcass is oak. A GEORGE III MAHOGANY TRAY TOP NIGHT COMMODE CIRCA 1780 78cm high, 49cm wide, 38cm deepCondition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. There are additional dark ring marks to the topThe lower drawer has had lid for commode fitting removed and the drawer itself has had a sympathetic additional later timber lining added so it operates well as a drawer. Some fading to colour in areas which could easily be improved. The item is constructed from high quality mahogany. The surface is original and the colour and patina fair and depth of colour could be improved by simple treatment. Old horizontal splits to the sides and rear panels have been previously disguised by filler. The appearance of this could be relatively easily improved by a restorer also. There is a slight bow on both doors due to warping. The concealed castors add a nice touch of quality and practicality.one pierced spandrel bracket from one leg is cleaning broken in one place and detached but present in the drawer.
