LELEU' , 164cm wide, 64cm deep, 99cm high (64 1/2in wide, 25in deep, 38 1/2in high). Footnotes:Jean-François Leleu, Maître ébéniste in 1764.This elegant, yet discreet breakfront commode was a very popular model by Jean-François Leleu, and many closely related surviving example show the strong demand of this classical yet modern model. A Continental commode painted in the Chinoiserie style. 19th century, the two long drawers with ornate ormolu rococo style handles and escutcheons, raised on pointed angular cabriole feet, height 90cm, width 115cm, depth 55cm.The overall condition is good and solid, there are two spandrels missing from the feet, evidence of historic worm on the base of the back panel no longer active, repair to one of the handles on the top drawer. A GEORGE III MAHOGANY SERPENTINE COMMODE CIRCA 1780 Brushing slide over three long drawers 83cm high, 108cm wide, 54cm deep Condition Report: Chest with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old splits, chips and losses. Some larger splits to the top and one side - see images for extent. Old repairs to the moulding at the edge of the top and to the bead moulding of the drawers - see images. Locks are later replacements, no key is present but all are open. Some evidence of old worm to underside and backboards. The baize to the brushing slide is later and has various losses. Some filler applied to surface in places. Condition Report: Commode with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old splits, chips and some losses. Various old worm holes in places. Handles and escutcheons are later replacements but suit the piece well. A key is present but only operates the lock to the top drawer. The other locks are fixed in the open position.
