Top drawer not fully closing. Veneer splits to the front of the second and third drawers. Fine splits to the sides. Small veneer losses in places. All handles and key escutcheon replaced. No key.

Written to Dudley Poplak, his friend and interior designer, effusively expressing his thanks for the birthday gift of a 'splendid commode' which Dudley had sent him, and he reminisces about another previous gift of an 'exquisite Edward Lear'. Signed 'Yours most gratefully, Charles'White envelope with blue royal cypher, addressed by hand and unpostmarked.
