A French serpentine-fronted painted commode (probably late 18th century): the faux marble moulded top above three full-width graduated drawers with recessed horizontal ovals as decoration, shaped frieze and raised on small cabriole front legs (122.5cm wide x 58.5cm deepest x 83cm high)Condition Report: This piece has a good look to it because of the marbling on the top even though there is wear to the edge and the moulding. The left-hand side panel is OK, the right-hand side panel has a full height vertical crack (approx. 17cm), this could be filled and painted out. The legs appear in good condition but there are scratches, paint away and scuffs. The draw linings are in pine and the sides and bottoms are very thick pine. First two drawers have the original iron locks and the bottom drawer no longer has the lock. The backboard appears original with a 5cm vertical piece replaced along one of the edges. There is some 're-strengthening' to the underside of the legs at the back although this is not seen without moving the chest in a tiled position.
